It's no secret that the 2018 Met Gala was full of A-listers including Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, Rihanna, and Gigi Hadid — but one person was noticeably missing and that was Taylor Swift. The 28-year-old popstar has been a staple attendee at the gala for the past several years. There's even rumors that she met both her ex, Tom Hiddleston, and her current boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, at the event.

So why didn't Taylor go to the Met Gala this year? She actually had a perfectly good reason. Taylor is set to perform her debut show on the Reputation tour today, May 8, in Glendale, AZ. If she wanted to make the event, she would have had to fly four and a half hours to NYC — assuming she had a direct flight —and nine hours round trip just to make it back to Arizona in time to be on stage for the show.

Even for Taylor's busy schedule, that's a lot of travel. And it didn't seem like Tay was too upset to miss the event as she shared a photo of herself standing next to a cactus while her famous friends posed on the Met Gala's red carpet.

"Fact: I've never been more excited about a tour than I am about this one," the "Bad Blood" singer captioned her post. "And it starts TOMORROW. Also, not even remotely tour related, but today I met a cactus. ?."

Taylor is set to put on 27 concerts in different stadiums throughout the country up until Oct. 6, 2018 — additional tour dates outside the US have not be released yet. And in true Taylor fashion, the tour is expected to be over-the-top. Not only has she been promoting the performances for weeks on social media, but she has also been showing fans several behind-the-scenes moments of rehearsal time.

Just about one month ago, Tay gave a shout-out to her incredible dancers who fans will get to see strut their stuff next to the icon on tour. She wrote, "Say hi to the Reputation stadium tour dancers!! Been spending my days rehearsing with these overwhelmingly talented people. 28 DAYS TIL GLENDALE, AZ."

Fingers crossed that next year Taylor can pencil in the Met Gala, though. After all, it's rumored that the track, "Getaway Car," is about her sneaky escape with Tom from the event in 2016 while she was still dating Calvin Harris. So her attendance is clearly crucial for Swifties everywhere. Who wouldn't want new music that stems from a small Met Gala scandal?!
