Long Island Teen Charged With Fatally Stabbing 15-Year-Old at House Party

Updated on November 13:

A 17-year-old in Long Island, New York was charged with second-degree murder after he fatally stabbed another teenager at a house party.

Police announced the incident on Monday, November 10, just one week after a 15-year-old died on November 3 at a house party in West Babylon, according to ABC News.

Between 90 to 100 teenagers were at a party outside of the house when a fight broke out at approximately 10:25 p.m., Suffolk County police said in a statement.

Police said Liam Delemo was stabbed during the fight. He was then transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives charged a 17-year-old boy from Syosset, New York with second-degree murder in connection with Delemo’s death, according to police.

While authorities confirmed that the fight ended in a fatality, no details have been released about what led to the altercation.

Authorities explained they were withholding the name of the suspect due to his age. The teen was arraigned on November 10 in a Central Islip courthouse, where the judge decided to not give him bail, according to NBC New York.

The suspect is facing 25 years to life in prison if he is convicted. Additionally, the outlet noted that he is being charged as a juvenile.

During the hearing, prosecutors described the suspect as an accomplished wrestler and said he is trained in martial arts.

Additionally, prosecutors said the defendant and two other friends from Syosset attended the party despite not being invited. Once the group arrived at the gathering, Delemo and other West Babylon students allegedly told them to leave.

“They weren’t supposed to be there and he saw them they were making a bit of a disturbance in the backyard,” Andrew Lombardi, who attended the November 3 party, said. “They were throwing bottles and being rude.”

Prosecutors said that interaction quickly turned deadly as the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Delemo several times. The prosecutors also said that the victim suffered lacerations in multiple organs, which led to his death.

Meanwhile, the defendant’s attorney, Jacob Kaplan, denied the charges and argued the suspect was not a flight risk. He also argued that there were multiple altercations at the party, which included people being pushed and physically attacked.

“He loved all of his friends,” Liam’s father, Michael Delemo, said of his son, per the outlet. “You know, he would do anything for them.”

Meanwhile, Delemo’s mother, Hope Delemo, remembered her son as a “good kid.” She added that he “is definitely going to be missed by everybody.”

Bonnie Miranda, who owned the home where the stabbing took place and allegedly allowed her grandchild to host the party, was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and violating the county’s social host law, according to The New York Times.

It is not currently known if she has entered a plea yet.
