The Voice’s Adam Levine Says He’s Going to Recruit ‘Stupid’ Blake Shelton to Coach a Country Singer
Blake Shelton may no longer be a coach on The Voice, but Adam Levine is still going to try to use his country music expertise.
The Maroon 5 frontman, 45, was able to secure young country singer Trevon Dawson as the last member of his team on The Voice season 27 during the latest episode on Monday, March 3. While the coach was thrilled to have Trevon, 17, round out his group of artists, he admitted that he might need some help in the genre, as Adam mostly has a pop-rock background.
“I’m going to call my friend Blake Shelton and I’m going to be like, ‘Hey stupid. Help me,’” he joked.
With that said, Adam still expressed his excitement over the chance to dive into the genre after previously missing out on having country artists on his team, as they typically chose to join Blake’s team instead when he was a coach.
“Trevon was the perfect person to round out Team Adam,” the “Sunday Morning” hitmaker said. “He has one of these young country voices that I hear a lot. You listen to the guys that are killing it right now in country music and I think he can do it. I can’t wait to coach country. We’re gonna kick ass.”
Blake, 48, who was the longest-running coach on The Voice and the last remaining original coach from season 1, left NBC’s singing competition after 23 seasons in May 2023. He announced his decision to exit the show in October 2022.

“I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from The Voice after next season,” he wrote in a statement shared on Instagram. “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week.”
Blake continued, “I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson [Daly] and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife, Gwen Stefani. I want to give a huge shoutout to the singers – the ‘Voices,’ who come on this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent and a special thanks to those who chose me to be their coach. Lastly, it’s about y’all, the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches and everyone at The Voice who are chasing their dreams.”
Though the “God’s Country” singer is no longer a coach on The Voice, he is often referenced by his former costars — especially Adam, who was also an original coach on the show and formed a close bond with the country star over the years. Adam left The Voice after season 16 in 2019, but he returned for season 27, which premiered on February 3.
“I had some time to reflect and do my thing and be with my family. I was ready to do it, then the stars aligned and here I am,” he told E! News of his comeback in January. “It’s funny, I actually didn’t miss it while I was gone, but I became more nostalgic about it once I came back.”
