Travis Kelce Was Battling an ‘Illness’ Before 2025 Super Bowl Loss: ‘Never Gonna Make Excuses’
Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs fell short of becoming the 2025 Super Bowl champions against the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, it’s been revealed that Travis was battling an “illness” while playing on the field.
“We’re never gonna make excuses and talk about it, but I mean, yeah, he was battling with a pretty big illness there before the Super Bowl,” Brett Veach, the Chiefs’ general manager, said during the Tuesday, February 25, episode of the “NFL: The Insiders” podcast.
That said, Veach admitted that the tight end’s health didn’t play a factor in the end result with the “way the Eagles played, it wouldn’t have made a difference.”
The Eagles had the game in their hands as they started off strong and didn’t take their feet off the gas, leading them to a 40-22 victory against the Chiefs.
In the stands, Travis, 35 was supported by girlfriend Taylor Swift, brother Jason Kelce and sister-in-law Kylie Kelce, parents Ed Kelce and Donna Kelce and his close group of friends.
After the game, Travis skipped the official Chiefs party, which included performances by DJ duo The Chainsmokers, Shaboozey, Quavo and Machine Gun Kelly.
Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers FaceTimed Travis following their performance at the party, who seemingly spent his night at a house party. A fan shared a video via X of the phone exchange and DJ Dom Dolla popped in on the screen next to Travis.
In the frame of Travis’ camera, pots and pans hung from a ceiling, seemingly confirming they congregated in a kitchen.
On February 12, Travis opened up about the Chiefs’ loss at the Super Bowl and plainly admitted that his team “couldn’t find a lick of momentum.”
“I’m kicking myself for some of the tiny, tiny decisions I made on the field,” the Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? host told brother Jason, 37, and retired Philadelphia Eagles center on their “New Heights” podcast episode. “I wasn’t the best leader that I could be in motivating my guys and keeping my guys calm, cool and collected.”

Jason championed his brother and pointed out the records Travis broke during the game, like breaking “the most catches in Super Bowl history.”
“I know that you don’t probably care that much about it right now because of the way the game went,” Jason said, adding, “But at the end of the day, it’s just another thing that cements you as one of the best players to ever play in the NFL.”
Jason isn’t the only one singing praises in Travis’ ears as the Grotesque actor revealed that Taylor’s music was on repeat during his post Super Bowl blues.
“The only way to find yourself in the light is to find yourself in the dark first. I listen to music that is very telling of my mood — yes,” Travis said during the Wednesday, February 26, episode of the “New Heights” podcast.
“I just listen to Taylor’s songs. She has something for everything,” Travis gushed, leading Jason to add, “No matter what mood, you can find some Taylor music.”
