It wasn’t just puppy love! Despite the fact that Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron haven’t been together since 2010, the actress, 30, recently reflected on the pair’s four-year romance. “It started off really organically,” Vanessa explained on the “Awards Chatter” podcast that aired on Monday, April 22.

“I could not have been more grateful to have that relationship at the time,” The Princess Switch star continued. “I had someone to lean on.” Ummm, that is so sweet. Alexa, play “Start of Something New” right freakin’ now.

Unlike most teenage couples, however, now-31-year-old Zac and Vanessa worked together — which meant that any rift between them could jeopardize the beloved High School Musical franchise. “I remember one time we did have a fight and it was while we were at rehearsals, and I remember Kenny Ortega coming around the corner with the most concerned look on his face like, ‘Oh no, is our movie going to fall apart right now?’” Vanessa said.

As it happens, though, the designated queen of Coachella was and continues to be a woman with a good head on her shoulders. “I pride myself on being a professional, so I was like that aside we are going to move forward and do what we need to do and we sorted it all out,” Vanessa explained.

While both Zac and Vanessa have gone on to find love with other people — Vanessa and hunky actor Austin Butler started dating in 2011 and Zac recently got together with professional swimmer Sarah Bro — it’s clear that their relationship still holds a special place in Vanessa’s heart.

“I think because I was so young, having that relationship stabilized me,” she admitted. Girl, not to be dramatic, but you and Zac dating stabilized us, too! Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton, forever.
