High School Musical Turns 20 as Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Cast Share Nostalgic Tributes

Disney’s High School Musical officially hit a major milestone on January 20, marking 20 years since the beloved movie first premiered and became a pop culture phenomenon. To celebrate the anniversary, cast members from the iconic franchise took to social media to share throwback photos, nostalgic memories, and heartfelt messages for fans.

Vanessa Hudgens, who starred as Gabriella Montez across all three films, posted a carousel of behind-the-scenes throwbacks on Instagram featuring her castmates, including Ashley Tisdale and Zac Efron.

“I cannot believe HSM turns 20 today,” Hudgens wrote. “Thank you to everyone who’s been there since day 1. We’ll always be in this together ❤️❤️❤️”

Hudgens’ post quickly drew reactions from longtime fans who grew up with the franchise, which debuted on Disney Channel in 2006 and went on to spawn two sequels, a chart-topping soundtrack, and a generation of devoted viewers.

Ashley Tisdale, who memorably portrayed Sharpay Evans, also marked the anniversary with an emotional tribute reflecting on the unexpected impact of the film.

“20 years ago we had no idea what this would turn into,” Tisdale wrote. “I’m so grateful for what this movie has given me, and for the fans who made it what it is. To be part of something this iconic, that still has new fans discovering it today, is truly wild. It keeps growing in ways I never imagined. I love you, Sharpay. And let me just say… we’re still looking fabulous! 💖.”

Director Kenny Ortega joined in the celebration by commenting on Tisdale’s post, praising her performance and energy on set.

“Working with you Ashley was one of my very favorite director, actor experiences,” Ortega wrote. “You brought so much to the party every day! Your enthusiasm, energy and talent are incomparable! Happy 20th to you and Sharpay 🎉 #legends 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼”

Tisdale later leaned fully into the nostalgia by revisiting Sharpay’s signature style. The actress shared an Instagram Reel showing off pieces from her original High School Musical wardrobe, pairing the video with the caption, “You can take the girl out of East High but you can’t take Sharpay out of the girl.”

Since its debut, High School Musical has remained one of Disney Channel’s most successful original movies, launching the careers of its young cast and cementing its place as a defining moment in 2000s pop culture.

Two decades later, the franchise continues to resonate with fans old and new, proving that Wildcats really are “all in this together.”
