The Story of How Kylie Jenner Found Her Makeup Artist (and ‘Life of Kylie’ Co-Star) Ariel Tejada Is Pretty Crazy
Now that we’ve met Kylie Jenner’s inner circle on her new E! reality series, Life of Kylie, viewers can’t get enough of the 20-year-old Lip Kit queen’s beloved makeup artist, Ariel Tejada. The 22-year-old beauty guru has quickly become a fan favorite thanks to his bright personality and sassy one-liners.
While we know he is skilled in the art of contouring, many Kylie enthusiasts still don’t know how Ariel nabbed the highly coveted gig working for the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan. Though many celebrities might search high and low to find the perfect makeup artist, Kylie found her go-to guy by simply sliding into his DMs.

“Kylie DM’d me herself on Instagram and told me, ‘Next time you’re in town, let’s work together,'” Ariel — who has been working with Kylie for a total of three years — explained during an August 2015 interview with BuzzFeed.
At the time of Kylie’s request, Ariel — a New York native — had no plans to travel to her hometown of Los Angeles. However, he told the Keeping Up With the Kardashians personality a small fib in hopes of collaborating with her ASAP.

“I told her, ‘I’ll be there in a week, let’s do it.’ I didn’t even have a flight booked or anything,” he admitted, adding that Kylie immediately fell in love with his work. “She was obsessed with the makeup. She said, ‘Can I keep you?’ And I was like, ‘Of course!'”

During his chat with BuzzFeed, Ariel — whose roster of famous clients include Naya Rivera, Khloé Kardashian, Lilly Ghalichi, Shay Mitchell, Pia Mia, and Ashley Graham — said he believes that using social media to showcase his talent was imperative to his success. “If you’re not taking advantage of social media, then you’re making a huge mistake,” he said at the time.
Life of Kylie airs on E! Sundays at 9 p.m. EST.
