Who Went Home on ‘American Idol’ Season 23?
The top 20 contestants gave their all onstage during the April 20, 2025, episode of the ABC singing competition series. The following night, America’s votes were revealed, leading the top 10 contestants with the most votes to the top 14. The judges saved the four additional contestants.
Kolbi Jordan, Breanna Nix, Thunderstorm Artis, Slater Nalley, Filo, John Foster, Jamal Roberts, Mattie Pruitt, Canaan James Hill and Gabby Samone were the top 10, while Desmond Roberts, Josh King, Ché and Amanda Barise also advanced after being saved by the judges.
Six aspiring musicians, Isaiah Misailegalu, Drew Ryn, Olivier Bergeron, Baylee Littrell, Zaylie Windsor and Victor Solomon, were sent home.
Drew sang Lady Gaga’s “A Million Reasons” for her second performance after landing in the danger zone and was given another chance by the judges. Lionel told Drew he wanted to see more “energy” from her moving forward, the “Hello” artist had the opposite advice for Desmond.
“I’m appealing to your ‘scared to death’ person. That simplicity is what we need more of. That was standing still, slaying it,” Lionel told Desmond during a critique. “If you get another chance at this shot, I am telling you, concentrate on song selection and simplicity.”
Baylee’s father and Backstreet Boys superstar, Brian Littrell, shared his endless love and support for his son via Instagram following his elimination.

“Bubba I am and always will be in your corner. You are so strong and so very talented, and inspire me every day,” Brian wrote in the comments section of the April 22, 2025, Instagram post. “It’s never the end, only the beginning for so many to be blessed by your gifts … you killed it last night.”
‘American Idol’ Judges React to Eliminations
Carrie reacted to having to make the tough decision on which contestants to save after they sent the bottom six home.
“My brain was almost like: ‘Six! I can’t do it!'” the season 4 American Idol winner told USA Today. “We were pretty much aligned; there were a couple of concessions that had to be made, but all in all I think we’re happy with how it turned out, other than six people had to go home, which is a huge jump.”
Luke told the network, “We have to take a lot of our knowledge and info through the whole season and try to pick the right ones. I’m really happy with who we gave a second chance to, and hopefully they can proceed to further rounds.”
Lionel, for his part, jokingly called out Carrie for being indecisive in her decision.
“The 2 1⁄2 minutes was: ‘Come on, Carrie. Give us the answer,'” the “Endless Love” singer told the outlet. “[Carrie said] ‘I don’t want any of them to leave!’ ‘Carrie, we’ve got a minute left. What is the answer?'”
