Why Is Derek Hough Taking ‘Great Offense’ to His Unborn Baby?
Derek Hough is already having very specific feelings about his unborn baby — and it’s hilarious.
The Dancing With the Stars judge, 40, and his wife Hayley Erbert, 31, recently shared a video on Instagram capturing one of those parent-to-be moments everyone knows too well.
In the clip, Hayley tells Derek that the baby is moving. Derek eagerly reaches for her bump… and cut to a raccoon barely twitching. The caption reads, “Every single time 🤣,” but what had fans cracking was Derek’s comment: “I take great offense.”
The couple first revealed they were expecting their first child in July 2025 with an Instagram video. Derek and Hayley, who married in August 2023, shared a sunny outdoor clip of the two embracing as Hayley flashed a strip of sonogram photos. Their caption read: “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small ♥️.”
Now, just months later, Hayley is due any day — and she’s been sharing the wisdom (and laughs) she and Derek are collecting along the way. “The best piece of advice that I’ve gotten is not to listen to anybody’s advice,” Hayley told E! News. “Because you will get so many people trying to give advice and then you’re just gonna be like, that doesn’t work for my child.”
There is one piece of advice they’re actually taking to heart. After a friend shared a moving story, Derek will have the honor of being the first to hold their baby. “The best piece of advice that Derek got was, if he’s able to and he’s willing, ‘Catch the baby,’” Hayley explained. “To be the first hands to catch your baby earth-side is the most special thing ever. And he would be the hands that bring the baby to me.”
Family excitement is at an all-time high. Derek’s sister, Julianne Hough, 38, told People, “Hayley and Derek are such a beautiful match. They are the perfect combination of creativity and strength and they give so much love to each other and the people in their lives.”
She’s especially thrilled to become an aunt again.
“My sisters all have kids, and being an aunt is one of my favorite roles. I became an aunt for the first time at eleven years old, so this time around it’ll be such a treat as an adult. Having Derek, Hayley, and this new little angel living here in [Los Angeles] will be so amazing, and I couldn’t be more excited to spoil the baby rotten!”
