Will Joseph Quinn Return to ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5? Cast and Creators Quotes, Fan Theories and More
When Stranger Things season 4 ended, fans were devastated — and not just because Vecna nearly took down Hawkins. Eddie Munson, the metalhead hero of the Hellfire Club played by Joseph Quinn, died in one of the show’s most emotional finales ever.
But this is Stranger Things, so death is … flexible. As we head towards the final season, fans have constantly questioned: Is Eddie actually gone for good — or is there still hope?
So, Is Eddie Munson Dead in Season 5?
Officially? Yes. According to the Duffer Brothers, Eddie’s death wasn’t just for shock value.
“Once we got to that point, it was really hard,” Matt Duffer told Time. “It was similar to Sean Astin, where we weren’t sure we wanted to do it because it meant saying goodbye to Eddie and Joe.”
He explained that Chrissy’s death in Eddie’s trailer sealed his fate long before the Demobats arrived. “His story was always going to be a tragic one. Even if he were to live, it would have been a tragic end for him. He would have ended up in jail probably.”
So yes — Eddie won’t be showing up alive in season 5 … but could he show up as something … stranger?
Could Joseph Quinn Still Appear in Season 5?
It’s possible that he could show up in flashbacks — much like Dacre Montgomery’s Billy did in season 4 after his character died at the end of season 3. However, some fans have theorized he could show up as some sort of creature in the Upside Down — specifically Vecna’s second in command. The theory even got a nod of approval from Millie Bobby Brown herself! “I mean, it’s a good fan theory,” Millie told Entertainment Tonight in October 2022.
On top of that, after season 4 premiered, Quinn was hopeful for his character’s return.
Speaking to ET in 2022, he teased that the “chances are high” he may be hanging out with his former castmates again.
“I love those guys! I’d love to say hello,” he said. When pressed further on whether Eddie himself could reappear, Joseph added, “I might have that feeling too. Or maybe I don’t. I don’t know! Who knows?”
When Does ‘Stranger Things; Season 5 Come Out?
The wait is finally almost over! Netflix confirmed that the fifth and final season will roll out in three parts throughout the holiday season. Here’s the full release schedule:

- Volume 2: December 25, 2025
- Finale Event: December 31, 2025
