Will There Be a ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 7? Why the Netflix Series Was Canceled: ‘End It on Our Terms’

It’s time to hit the mat for Cobra Kai season 6 part 3. Netflix has released the third batch of episodes in the Karate Kid spinoff’s supersized sixth season, which was split into epic three parts. But is the story ending here, or can fans look forward to a Cobra Kai season 7?

Will There Be a ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 7?

Unfortunately, the dojos will be closing up for good after Cobra Kai season 6, so there will not be a season 7. Netflix and the series’ creators, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, announced their decision to end Cobra Kai back in January 2023 in tandem with the season 6 renewal announcement.

“When Daniel LaRusso arrived in the Valley with his mother in 1984, little did he know that his life was about to be forever changed,” a letter from the All Valley Tournament Committee written on All Valley Karate Championships stationary read. “The same went for three young kids from New Jersey who hadn’t yet met one another. Daniel’s journey from bullied teen to underdog hero became an indelible part of our childhoods, and something that we would always carry with us in our hearts.”

The letter continued, “Reacquainting the world with The Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sense, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.”

Josh, Jon and Hayden added that it was always their intention to end Cobra Kai “on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined.”

“So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement,” they noted before revealing that season 6 would be the last.

“While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies,” the announcement concluded. “In the meantime, strap in for the BIGGEST SEASON OF COBRA KAI YET. And let today be a celebration of all that’s come, as well as all that’s still left to be told. We couldn’t do it without you. We made it. Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy.”

When Was ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6 Part 3 Released?

Netflix released the third and final batch of episodes in season 6 on February 13, 2025.

Season 6 has 15 episodes in total, with five episodes in each of the three parts. All three parts are streaming on Netflix now.

Will There Be Other ‘Cobra Kai’ Spinoffs?

Cobra Kai may be coming to an end, but this appears to be only the beginning of the “Miyagiverse” that the show’s creators have built. As Josh, Jon and Hayden teased in their season 6 announcement, it’s possible fans will see other Karate Kid and Cobra Kai spinoffs in the future.

In July 2024, the creators revealed that they were thinking of a prequel series about Daniel LaRusso’s (Ralph Macchio) sensei, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita, who died in 2005), as well as other spinoff ideas.

Cobra Kai itself is, in a way, a spinoff of The Karate Kid. We took the bully from The Karate Kid, we took that branch and created our own tree out of it, and we feel like we could do that with any of the characters on the show,” Hayden told The Hollywood Reporter. “We definitely thought about that as we’re tying things up with all the characters. We think about the fun of following them in their futures and in, addition, we think about the past.”

He continued, “It is one of the reasons why we did the Miyagi box story this season. It opens up all these questions about Mr. Miyagi and what his life was like, and that’s been something we’ve been wanting to do for a while. We’ve talked to Robert Mark Kamen, the writer of the original Karate Kid who based this whole movie off his sensei who studied Okinawan karate; we’ve been talking about all this Miyagi backstory with him, which helped us with season six stuff. Now that we’re done, we can actually start getting into this stuff.”

How Does ‘Cobra Kai’ End?

Season 6 part 3 documented the exciting conclusion of the Sekai Taikai tournament, which was moved to the San Fernando Valley after the death of Cobra Kai student Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon H. Lee) in part 2. Miyagi-Do was eliminated from the tournament in the semi-finals after Sam LaRusso (Mary Mouser) dropped out of her fight against Cobra Kai’s Tory Nichols (Peyton List) and Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) broke his leg in a match against the Iron Dragons’ Axel Kovačević (Patrick Luwis).

With that, Cobra Kai and the Iron Dragons headed to the finals. After a brutal first half of the fight, Tory won her match against the Iron Dragons’ Zara Malik (Rayna Vallandingham), becoming the girls’ champion. Meanwhile, Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) emerged victorious in his match with Axel, scoring another championship title for Cobra Kai.

However, the Iron Dragons and Cobra Kai ultimately tied when it came to their overall scores, so Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Sensei Wolf (Lewis Tan) had to fight in a tiebreaker match. Once again, Cobra Kai came out the winner and earned the trophy.

In addition to seeing the end of the tournament, fans got to see where the karate students and their senseis went afterward. Johnny purchased a new home for himself, his newlywed wife, Carmen Diaz (Vanessa Rubio), and their newborn daughter, Laura. Additionally, he reopened Cobra Kai dojo, promising to work with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to also teach the students the ways of Miyagi-Do.

Sensei Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) reunited with his new love, Sensei Kim Da-Eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim).

While Robby and Tory earned contracts as professional athletes, Sam jetted off to Okinawa, Japan, to study abroad, with Miguel tagging along to help her get settled before he began his journey at Stanford University. Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz (Jacob Bertrand) and Demetri Alexopoulos (Gianni Decenzo) drove off together to begin their studies at the California Institute of Technology.

And what happened to Cobra Kai’s longtime big bads, former Cobra Kai Sensei John Kreese (Martin Cove) and his friend-turned-enemy Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith)? In a moment of redemption, Kreese sacrificed himself during a battle with Silver on a yacht by throwing a lighter at some spilled gasoline, causing the yacht to blow up. Both Kreese and Silver presumably died in the blaze.
