Woman in Thailand Found Alive in Coffin After Brother Brought Her to Be Cremated
A woman in Thailand gave temple staff members the shock of a lifetime when she started moving in her coffin after she was brought in to be cremated.
Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, a Buddhist temple in the province of Nonthaburi near Bangkok, took to Facebook to share a video of a woman lying in a white coffin in the back of a pick-up truck, according to the Associated Press.
In the clip, the woman showed signs of life as she was seen slightly moving her arms and head.
After the video was uploaded, the temple’s general and financial affairs manager Pairat Soodthoop told the outlet that the 65-year-old woman’s brother drove her from the province of Phitsanulok to be cremated.

Once the coffin arrived at the temple, staff members heard a faint knock coming from inside the coffin.
“I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was startled,” Soodthoop said in an interview published on Monday, November 24. “I saw her opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for quite some time.”
The brother said that his sister, whose name has not been publicly shared, was bedridden for two years when her health deteriorated and she became unresponsive, according to Pairat. She seemingly stopped breathing two days later, so the brother put her in the coffin and traveled 300 miles to a hospital in Bangkok to fulfill her wish to donate her organs.
However, once he arrived at the hospital he was turned away because he didn’t have an official death certificate. Soodthoop said that his temple offers a free cremation service, which is why the brother traveled there on Sunday, November 23. However, Soodthoop also refused to cremate the woman’s body due to the missing document.

As Pairat explained to the brother how to obtain a death certificate, the staff heard knocking coming from inside the coffin. They then assessed the woman before she was sent to a nearby hospital.
The state of the woman is not currently known. However, Soodthoop said that the temple’s abbot said the temple would cover her medical expenses.
