Season 7B of Dance Moms is in full swing, and there will soon be a new coach in charge! Cheryl Burke is taking over as lead choreographer on the reality show, replacing studio head Abby Lee Miller — who’s currently serving a 366-day prison sentence. But the Dancing With the Stars champ wasn’t worried about the transition.

“I grew up with a tiger mom! I know how to motivate these girls from within,” she shared on Instagram. “We’re here to succeed and create together.” Before heading behind bars, Abby expressed doubts over how Cheryl would handle a decrease in budget coming from DWTS.

“Wait until Cheryl Burke deals with [that],” she explained “At Dancing With the Stars, they have two floors — an entire building of seamstresses sewing, rhinestoning, fringe — she’s going to have to run downtown to [LA flea market] Santee Alley and buy something off the street in her own car, at 4:30 in rush hour traffic after we wrap, when everything is closing, because that’s what I did for six years.” Keep scrolling to learn more about Cheryl and the final season of Dance Moms!

Do the dancers like Cheryl?

The girls have had nothing but nice things to say about the 33-year-old on Instagram. Former Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler also told Entertainment Tonight that she was supportive of the new addition.

“It’s really cool — I’m a huge fan of Cheryl’s from Dancing With the Stars,” Maddie revealed. “It’ll be cool to see what she does. Cheryl is a great person, so I think she’ll do really well with the kids. All the girls said they loved her. More just light and happiness! She seems like she really cared for the girls and wanted them to do their best. I think that’s so important.”

What does Cheryl think of Abby?

After pleading guilty to fraud charges, Abby doesn’t have many people left in her corner… including Cheryl. The ballroom beauty spoke out about how she thought Abby was damaging the girls.

“The girls are so precious and I feel like they’re traumatized from what has happened with Abby and it’s important for me to still be strict and do what I do and I expect nothing but the best from the girls, but it’s also important for me to make them feel confident about themselves because they’re all beautiful, they’re all talented,” she explained. “They all want to move on and do other things and it’s important that they all have the right head on their shoulders and they don’t ever walk in a room with their head down, feeling like they aren’t good enough.”

Who is Cheryl Burke’s boyfriend?

She recently rekindled her relationship with on-again, off-again boyfriend Matthew Lawrence. The Boy Meets World star first dated the dancer in 2007, but they called it quits the following year. Based on their social media accounts, however, they’re now more in love than ever!

What does Cheryl think of the Dance Moms?

During an exclusive interview with Life & Style, Cheryl shared what exactly we can expect this season — and you guessed it, there will be plenty of mama drama! “Of course the moms are a big part of the show as well, so I had to get used to dealing with their issues while focusing on the girls and their dancing,” she explained. “You’ll definitely see me remind the mom’s that they should be acting like supportive moms.”

Is Cheryl tough like Abby?

The tiny dancer revealed to Life & Style exclusively that “coming in the girls said they were traumatized by her teaching and lacked confidence. So I tried to become a mentor to them and help them find their love of dance again.”

“I’m not a yeller, but I am strict,” she added. “People see that on Dancing With the Stars. I try to get the best out of my students, and I will be stern, but I do it in a different way than Abby and I think the girls respond to that.”
