For those of you who aren’t aware, Abby was diagnosed in June 2018 with a rare form of cancer called Burkitt lymphoma. Thankfully, after several rounds of chemotherapy, she’s healed.

“The cancer’s gone,” Abby told Us Weekly on May 17. “I had a PET scan, and it was cleared. Not one cell of cancer after three rounds of chemo,” she gushed.

“But I still had seven more just for safety, which was stupid,” Abby noted. “I should have just worked on therapy.” Part of Abby’s intensive therapy is learning to walk again — which she’s incredibly hopeful about.

“If the ER doctor wouldn’t have said, ‘Oh, go home and take it easy for 10 days. You’ll be fine,’ then they would have actually tested me and done an MRI and looked further at the blood labs. Then they would have known there was something really dramatically wrong,” she detailed about her emergency spinal surgery that nearly took her life.

“They could have done something, and they would have started the chemo immediately and … the mass of the infection would have never gotten strong enough to choke my spinal cord, and I wouldn’t be in a wheelchair and I’d be walking.”

As to whether Abby’s cancer can return? “I haven’t asked that,” she admitted. “I would be afraid to ask that, but I don’t think it’s that kind of cancer,” she revealed. “It’s a lymphoma, but it’s not … It’s like this weird, strange, bizarre thing that happens, and it’s gone and we need to move on.”

So, what does “moving on” look like? Certainly not just shopping, right? Right! Abby has big plans for her second lease on life. “I feel OK. I want to go back to the weight I was when I got out of prison,” Abby said.

ICYMI: Abby spent eight months in prison after being charged for bankruptcy fraud. “I want to get back on track and get back to my life in Los Angeles,” she continued. “And I want to sell these TV shows.”

Well, considering Dance Moms season 8 is back on TV and more entertaining than ever, it’s clear Abby has no problem knocking her goals out of the park. Perhaps it’s because nothing phases her nowadays — including all of the craziness that takes place at the ALDC.

“I feel grateful … I feel alive and thriving when I’m back in the [dance] studio and I get in my zone and I’m just doing my thing,” Abby told Us Weekly during Lifetime’s recent summer junket in West Hollywood.

“I don’t think I get that upset over things,” she explained of her newfound outlook. “It’s hard to deal with the moms, all of that’s hard, but I don’t fly off the handle as quickly as I did … And when the kids don’t win, I’m like, ‘Yeah, but you were great.’” Abby Lee being OK with losing? Wow … some things *really* do change.

When it comes to Abby being in a wheelchair, she doesn’t let it hold her back one bit! “It’s not difficult in the chair because I always sat there anyway, so that’s not a big deal,” she admitted.

“What’s not good is while you’re shooting 12 hours a day, I’m not doing the exercises that I’m supposed to do. I’m missing lots of physical therapy appointments … I’m not really taking care of myself like I did.”

That said, Abby has high hopes for the future. “It’s usually a year after your [spinal] surgery … but I’ve probably got another three months. We’ll see what happens with the knee surgery. I’m going to have knee surgery as soon as we wrap [season 8].”
