Are Calvin Harris and Miley Cyrus Feuding? Scrapped ‘Ocean’ Collaboration, Explained

Calvin Harris and Miley Cyrus had fans buzzing after a long-teased collaboration called “Ocean” suddenly changed course. The track, which was originally previewed with Miley’s vocals in 2023, was highly anticipated by both of their fan bases. But when Calvin shared a new version of the song in August 2025 featuring Jessie Reyez instead, questions quickly surfaced about what happened — and whether there was any tension between the two stars. Now, Calvin is clearing the air.

On Sunday, August 17, the Scottish DJ posted a new clip of the track on TikTok, this time with singer-songwriter Jessie providing vocals. “We were dancing, we were wild in the ocean / Love the way you lay me down and break me open,” Jessie sings in the snippet, which rides over Calvin’s signature dance beat.

Naturally, fans noticed Miley’s absence right away and flooded the comments asking what happened. Calvin gave minimal detail — but made it clear there’s no drama between him and the “Flowers” hitmaker.

When one fan asked what happened to Miley’s version, Calvin replied simply: “I dunno.” Another person chimed in, writing, “I love Miley’s version more.” Calvin cheekily responded, “tell [Miley].”

The questions kept rolling in. One fan begged him to “release it with Miley’s vocals,” but Calvin shot back that it’s “not possible.” Others speculated there might be bad blood. “Is there any issue between you and her?” one asked, to which Calvin responded firmly: “Absolutely not!!”

In fact, the DJ made a point to compliment Miley’s artistry. “We want Miley on the track [though], she sounded so angelic,” a fan insisted. Calvin replied, “She has an amazing voice.”

Of course, Calvin didn’t lose his sense of humor amid the speculation. When one commenter declared they “only want Miley,” the producer playfully wrote, “Off you pop then.”

Some wondered if the decision to swap singers came down to Miley’s management team, but Calvin corrected the record. “Nah it was my bad…crossed wires,” he wrote. In another response, he explained, “Kind of but it was with Jessie first,” and clarified that Jessie wrote the song.

Jessie herself joined in on the excitement, posting her own clip of “Ocean” to Instagram. She tagged Calvin in the video and sang the emotional lyrics: “Sun is up, back to life, my eyes are open / And the last thing I remember was you holding me / The fact that I still love you in the morning / Tells me that your body might be home for me.”
