Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater Are ‘Happier Than Ever’: They ‘Want to Be Together’
Ariana Grande and boyfriend Ethan Slater are done hiding their relationship. The Wicked costars became Instagram official on November 4 when they posted a photo of themselves at the Sydney premiere on their respective accounts.
“Ethan and Ariana are out of hiding and happier than ever,” a source exclusively tells Life & Style. “They’re so excited for the film to come out and for chatter around how they got together to be behind them.”
The couple met on the set of the Broadway musical adaptation, and while they were both single at the time — Ariana, 31, was separated from husband Dalton Gomez and Ethan, 32, had split from wife Lilly Jay — the timeline of their romance raised eyebrows. Ethan and Lilly, 30 – who share one child – finalized their divorce in September, while the “Thank U, Next” singer and Dalton’s divorce was finalized in March.
“They’re good people who fell in love,” says the insider about the lovebirds. “This wasn’t a fling. Ethan and Ariana want to be together.”
While the pair initially kept their romance out of the spotlight, it seems like Ariana and Ethan have become more comfortable discussing their relationship. In fact, he made rare comments about their relationship while speaking to GQ in an interview published on October 30.
“It was an amazing year and a really beautiful thing, and I’m just really excited,” he told the outlet about their romance. “I’m just really, really proud of Ari and the work she’s done on this. She’s poured herself into it.”
After noting that he was “really proud” of getting to be “there for that part of it” on the set of Wicked, Ethan shared that he was “really excited to be there for this next step of it when the world gets to see the amazing thing that she did.”
Ethan also opened up about some of the more difficult parts of being in a relationship that’s in the public eye.
“I think there was something that was really difficult about things in your private life being commented on and looked at by the public,” he continued. “There were a lot of big changes in private lives that were really happening, so it’s really hard to see people who don’t know anything about what’s happening commenting on it and speculating, and then getting things wrong about the people you love. So just to address that part of it, that feels really hard.”
Not only have Ethan and Ariana grown more comfortable talking about each other during interviews, but the couple has also reportedly discussed taking a major step in their relationship.
“Ethan is itching to propose to Ariana,” an additional source exclusively told Life & Style in September. “He’s already looking at rings, so it’s only a matter of time before he pops the question.”
The insider explained that some of Ariana’s friends have urged her to “take things slow” in their relationship. However, “Ari’s totally in love with him and would absolutely say yes if Ethan got down on one knee.”
