Selena Gomez Dethroned as the Most Followed Woman on Instagram: Find Out Who Took the Top Spot!

After being the most followed woman on Instagram for two years straight, Selena Gomez has officially been dethroned by Ariana Grande. The “thank u, next” singer, 25, recently surpassed the Disney alum, 26, proving she’s basically the biggest star in the world right now, as if we needed any more evidence of that.

Ari currently has 146.4 million followers, while Selena follows with 146.3 million. Honestly, it’s not super shocking Ari is the most followed woman now. The pop star is on top of her game. She recently broke a Billboard record, becoming the first female artist to have three of her album’s singles simultaneously on the Hot 100’s top 40. She’s in high-demand right now, which explains why she’s constantly posting online, promoting her projects and interacting with fans.

While Selena is just as great, the actress has been keeping it very low-key for the last few months. Since leaving rehab in November 2018, she hasn’t been all that active on social media. She has posted pics with friends here and there, but it’s nothing compared to the amount Ariana shares. Just so you get the picture — Ariana’s Instagram stories often look like dots, rather than dashed lines. Naturally, she gains more and more followers who want to see what she’s up to.

While the “God Is a Woman” singer has the top spot for a woman, she’s still not the most followed person on Instagram. Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed person on Instagram with 156 million followers. While this may surprise many, it makes sense considering soccer is actually the most popular sport in the world, and he’s its biggest star.

Several American celebs dominate Instagram. Influencers like Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift are pretty far up the list. The pair of Kar-Jenner sisters almost tie — Kim has 128.9 million followers, while Kylie has 127.9 million. Taylor follows with a fanbase of 114.3 million.

Selena is expected to release music later this week, so stay tuned because the placement could easily change again!
