Though just a few days ago Offset and Cardi B were teasing the idea of a joint album, the married couple has officially called it quits on their relationship. The new mother revealed the news on Instagram late Tuesday night, Dec. 4, in a video she shared with fans. In the post, she opened up with her followers about how things hadn’t been working out in their romantic relationship for a long time. Though she maintained that they were still good business partners and friends, it seems that the rapping superstars’ marriage is over.

“So everybody been bugging me and everything,” Cardi shared in the video. “And you know I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby father for a hot minute now. And we’re really good friends and you know we’re really good business partners and, you know, he’s always somebody that I run to to talk to, and we’ve got a lot of love for each other, but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time and it’s nobody’s fault. I guess we just grew out of love, but we’re not together anymore. It might take time to get a divorce,” she continued. “And I’m gonna always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father. Yeah.”

The news is heartbreaking not only because the couple shared a marriage and are raising their daughter, Kulture, but also because Cardi B recently opened up about how hard it is to live her life in the public eye. While talking about why she’s given fans only glimpses of her daughter, she admitted there’s a reason she hasn’t posted pictures of her face. “I’m scared of sharing her to the world. There are too many mean people out there,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

We can imagine that may be the same reason why she was hesitant to share the news of her breakup with fans — and why she waited until after midnight on the East Coast and nearly midnight on the West Coast to post her statement. But based on the rapper’s social media, it’s clearly still a recent development. Only a little over a week earlier, on Nov. 24, she was still showing love for her “hubby” on Instagram, calling him “really fine” and “sexy” among other more, uh, sexual compliments.

But despite the heartache, it’s clear from Cardi’s video that they’re ending things on relatively good terms. Fans may be tempted to believe that it was a “Be Careful” kind of situation, but the couple had endured cheating scandals in the past and proven they were able to get past them. “It’s like everybody is coming down my neck, like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.’ I don’t have low self-esteem,” she told Cosmopolitan in February. “But I want to work out my s–t with my man, and I don’t got to explain why. I’m not your property. This is my life.”

Her song, “Be Careful,” is surprisingly sad in hind-sight, though. “I wanna get married like the Currys, Steph and Ayesha s–t. But we more like Belly, Tommy and Keisha s–t,” she raps on the track, referencing the 1998 crime drama. It’s clear the star is looking for the real deal, but the romantic love she shared with Offset just isn’t the forever kind.
