Daryl Hannah and Neil Young ‘Love the Quiet’ of Rural Canada: Moving From L.A. ‘Brought Peace’
Daryl Hannah had fans swooning over her recent, rare appearance at the 2025 Oscars, but her life these days is incredibly down to earth as she and hubby Neil Young hide from the stresses of Hollywood in rural Canada, a source exclusively tells Life & Style.
“They love their life out of the spotlight and the pressure cooker that is L.A.,” the insider says. “Daryl doesn’t go into a lot of detail about what exactly she went through during her time in Hollywood, but she has said that some of her experiences were gnarly enough that she gets anxiety whenever she sees trailers set up for a movie set.”
The Kill Bill star, 64, ditched any notion of an overly-glamorous gown at the awards show, which she attended to present the award for best editing to Anora director, editor and writer Sean Baker, instead opting to sport a silky white button-up shirt over a mesh bustier top. Though, she did spruce up the look platform heels and jewels with a hidden meaning: her diamond collar featured 52 bullet-shaped black onyx sections by Maison Mèrenor and a Beladora black and white diamond snake cuff, a reference to her character in the Quinten Tarantino classic.
Both Daryl and her iconic rocker husband Neil, 79, have tucked themselves away in rural Ontario for years now, tending to prefer the quiet life over the glitz and glam of awards shows. The last time Daryl made a public appearance was at a post-screening Q&A event for her and her husband’s documentary Coastal, which followed the “Heart of Gold” singer’s 2023 tour, on February 7 during the Santa Barbara film festival. Before that, she made a red carpet walk during the 2023 Grammys as a nominee, which only came after a five year hiatus when she last showed for the 2018 South by Southwest film festival to promote her Netflix project Paradox.
The source notes that far from Los Angeles, “She certainly doesn’t have to worry about running across” anything that made her Hollywood heyday miserable. “Where she’s living now, it’s the middle of nowhere.”
“She loves the peace and quiet they have where they live, they’re really able to focus on their art. Neil is still making music, she’s working on another movie about him, which she loves doing, moving far away from L.A. has brought her a lot of peace.”
Daryl has been an outspoken environmental activist and gave her firm support for Ukraine during her presentation at the Academy Awards. The insider says her husband is more than happy to support her behind the scenes, and also feels that it’s best to be away from the United States at this particular moment.
“Neil is very happy to be spending the lion’s share of his time in Canada these days. It’s no secret he does not agree with the current political direction the United States is taking so just for the sake of his blood pressure he’s better off living in Canada.”
