Poor Ross Geller! On Oct. 23, the UK’s Blackpool Police department took to Facebook to ask their followers for help in identifying a thief who was caught on camera stealing beer from a local restaurant. No big deal, right? Well, as it turns out, the sticky-fingered fella happened to be a dead ringer for David Schwimmer! Seriously, y’all, we’ve never seen a doppelgänger this convincing.

Naturally, the internet went wild with theories that everyone’s favorite character from Friends has now turned to petty theft to support himself. With that, David decided it was necessary to provide the world (and law enforcement, for that matter) with an airtight alibi.

“Officers, I swear it wasn’t me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation,” the 51-year-old captioned a clip of himself remaking the original surveillance footage.

David’s video basically went viral within 24 hours. The Blackpool Police even responded to the actor’s clever recreation of the crime. “Thanks for being there for us, David Schwimmer. We appreciate your support,” the department wrote. Additionally, fans began to flood David’s Twitter with love.

“I love the fact that David Schwimmer took time out of his day to prove his innocence and put all Friends fans minds to rest,” one user wrote. “That sounds like something Russ would do, TBH!” added another — referring to “The One with Russ” episode of Friends.

Don’t worry, though! The hilarious references to the hit sitcom didn’t stop there. “The one where Ross moves to Blackpool and turns to a life of crime,” someone chimed in. “I’ve just tried to phone the lead investigators… but they were on a break!!” quipped another.

At the end of the day, we’re just hoping that all this attention on David will lead to the Friends reboot we’ve all been praying for!
