Fans might be surprised to find out they actually don’t have any outside people to help out — that all falls on something the family has put in place called “the buddy system.” The system works so each older child is paired with a younger child that they are supposed to watch over and guide.
And while the system might seem like the perfect solution, an insider told Radar Online that it really only works for Jim Bob and Michelle’s benefit. The source shared, “It’s great for them because it’s like they have a set of free nannies, but the kids don’t really have a choice!”
Aside from the buddy system, Jim Bob and Michelle look to Jana Duggar — one of the older siblings who isn’t married or courting — to watch over the entire house when they have a date night. The insider claimed, “Jim Bob and Michelle have been known to go out on date night and leave all the kids at home with Jana in charge of the house. They’ll be gone for hours, and she has to watch over everyone. She does it with a smile, but it’s sad.”
Although the Duggar family turns to the older children when it comes to babysitting and necessary house chores, that doesn’t mean they don’t get any outside help at all. According to a reddit user, they actually have two live-in tutors which are essentially private teachers for the kids who are still in school.
In January 2017, Duggar family tutor, Tabitha Paine, made headlines when she got engaged to Timothy Robertson — InTouch obtained court documents from 2000 that convicted him of criminal sexual conduct after having nonconsensual sex with a woman at a strip club.
At the time, InTouch had also talked with Timothy’s mother, Ruby Ann Robertson, who spoke directly about the incident. She said, “When these young people party and drink they do silly, stupid stuff! A whole bunch of ’em was drinking that day. They [were] drinking all day long and it was just a big mess.”
