Congratulations are in order for kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart!
The 29-year-old Utah native, who made headlines in 2002 after she was abducted from her bedroom and found nine months later, is pregnant with her second child — a baby boy!
Elizabeth shared the news on Instagram, giving her followers a look at her sonogram.
"Excited to announce we're having a boy! #itsaboy #aprilbaby," she wrote.
Elizabeth and her husband Matthew Gilmour, who tied the knot in 2012, welcomed daughter Chloe back in 2015.
Now an author and motivational speaker, this news comes just days after Elizabeth was almost attacked by a knife-wielding man at a speaking series in Indiana.
According to the Tribune Star, Claude Hudson, who served time for attempted murder, was spotted playing with a folding knife by a police captain.
When the 80-year-old tried to make his way to Elizabeth, who was signing copies of her memoir, My Story, at the time when he was stopped, disarmed and arrested for battery.
While Elizabeth has not commented on the incident, she has been very vocal about motherhood in the past.
"That is my greatest aspiration — to be a mother,” she told People magazine. "I guess we’ll start having kids and see how I handle that and then go from there. I don’t have a predetermined number in my head.”
Elizabeth, who is also a contributor for ABC News, hopes to continue to be an inspiration to people who have undergone similar traumatic experiences.
“The power of the media is so strong. I know that in my own experience, if my parents hadn’t kept my story alive in the press, it might have been just another sad story that came and went," she added. "So the opportunity to talk to other victims and survivors means a lot to me and to them. Nobody should have to go through the aftermath of a terrible crime alone.”
We can't wait to meet him!
