Considering Halsey has one of the biggest singles of 2019 under her belt — Ahem, “Without Me” — it’s pretty shocking that she wasn’t nominated for a Grammy award. Unsurprisingly, her diehard fans and supporters felt the same sense of shock.
With that, the 25-year-old NJ native took to Twitter to offer some words of consolation. “My fans, please do not waste your anger or frustration. I see a lot of you are upset. Of course, I’m sad, too. None of it matters. Literally none of it,” Halsey began on Wednesday, November 20.
“You’re here. I’m here and everything is gonna stay exactly the same and ‘Without Me’ is still a super tight, record-breaking song,” she continued. In a follow-up tweet, Halsey wrote, “Congrats to the nominees. So much great music nominated this year. Definitely see a lot of my friends and colleagues missing from the nom lists, but the music speaks! This is how it goes every year, right?”
Quickly, her followers chimed in to echo her sentiments. “You got your coin, sis, and that’s all that matters!!!!!” one user responded. “You deserve everything. Love you,” added another. “Ignore those clowns. We love you,” a third wrote. “Talent doesn’t need validation. Love you … always … no matter what,” a fourth person commented.
As it happens, this isn’t the first time Halsey has voiced her disappointment over an awards show. In August 2018, the “Graveyard” singer opted not to attend the MTV VMAs. “[Because] I directed all of my own music videos this album just to have MTV ‘#WCW’ me to death and not nominate me for anything. So, it didn’t feel right to go. I’m happy you guys liked the videos. That’s all that matters to me.”
Fast forward to this year’s VMAs, and Halsey was nominated for a whopping eight awards. Perhaps the very same will happen in 2021 with the Grammy Awards. Either way, Halsey remains one of the most talented artists in modern-day. Keep doing what you love!
