Is ‘The Bachelorette’ Canceled? Updates on Season 22 After News the Series Is Skipping a Season

While The Bachelor kicked off with season 29 in January 2025, the ladies from Grant Ellis’ season won’t have an opportunity to earn a spot as The Bachelorette the same year. The popular Bachelor spinoff won’t be returning in 2025, and fans of the show want to know if the reality dating series has been canceled.

Is ‘The Bachelorette’ Canceled?

The Bachelorette has not been canceled, but ABC is skipping season 22 in 2025.

On February 7, 2025, multiple outlets reported that The Bachelorette would be taking a hiatus and would not be following the typical schedule. In the past, The Bachelor would air in the spring and one of the women from that season would be chosen as the star of the following season of The Bachelorette that would air in the summer. However, ABC has opted to not film season 22 of The Bachelorette during its typical production time.

Deadline reported that The Bachelorette “will likely come back to the Disney-owned network in the future” and added that it’s “unlikely to air this year but insiders have not completely ruled out its return later this year.”

Host Jesse Palmer later insisted to fans that The Bachelorette will eventually return for season 22. “The good news is I know it’s not going away. I know it’s definitely coming back,” Jesse said during a February 11, 2025, episode of the “Playing the Field” podcast. “Without being able to get into too much of the creative decisions on it, I know that when it does, I just think it’s going to be absolutely tremendous.”

“I can’t get too far in depth with a lot of the creative decisions that went into that,” he added of the show’s hiatus. “I know it’s not unprecedented for The Bachelorette not to air in the summer.”

Has ‘The Bachelorette’ Ever Skipped a Season Before?

Pushing pause on The Bachelorette in 2025 isn’t the first time the network has done so. The first season of the series starred Trista Sutter (née Rehn) and premiered in 2003. However, it skipped seasons in 2006 and 2007. Similarly, in 2024, Bachelor in Paradise didn’t return for season 10 in 2024.

There were rumors it had been canceled after nine years on the air. Former Bachelor host Chris Harrison also speculated that Bachelor in Paradise had been canceled during an episode of “The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever.”

“I was a little bummed to hear that Paradise has allegedly been postponed,” Chris said at the time. “I think this is the official way they’re saying it is. They’re postponing it for a year or canceling it.”

However, ABC made an announcement in July 2024 that it would be back on television screens in 2025.

“We’re heading back to the beach in 2025! #BachelorInParadise,” ABC wrote via Instagram on July 10, 2024.

What Happened on ‘The Bachelorette’ Season 22?

Jenn Tran wasn’t successful in finding love when fans met her during Joey Graziadei’s season of The Bachelor in 2024, but she received a second chance at finding love when she was chosen as The Bachelorette for season 22. She connected with contestant Devin Strader early on in her season and he and Marcus Shoberg ended up as her final two.

Jenn ultimately chose Devin, but instead of following the typical route of him proposing to her, she decided she wanted to be the one to pop the question. Devin accepted but their happily ever after was short lived and Jenn revealed that she and Devin had broken up two months after they got engaged.

“I promised my life to somebody who I thought was going to put every effort into the relationship. I didn’t feel that. I felt like I was secondary to everything in his life,” Jenn explained during the After the Final Rose episode. “He wasn’t introducing me to his family anymore. Every little thing made me feel secondary to his life and I didn’t understand why.”

Jenn Tran Reacts to ‘The Bachelorette’ Hiatus

Just weeks after The Bachelorette hiatus was revealed, Jenn admitted that the decision “was a surprise” to her.

“The franchise has been going on for so long. Sometimes you hear things like why [shows go on pause],” she told People in an interview published on February 19, 2025. “I have no idea why and what’s going on there. I really have no idea.”

Jenn also shared one theory on why the show may be pausing on season 22. “The Bachelorette does usually air in the summer when people are traveling — I heard that it doesn’t do as well as The Bachelor, which airs in the fall, where people are home and ready to watch TV,” she said. “So maybe it’ll give a chance for the next Bachelorette to air at a time where there’s more visibility. That would be nice.”
