Even the strongest people have their struggles. Jersey Shore star Angelina Pivarnick bravely opened up about her battle with depression exclusively to Life & Style on March 1. The 32-year-old’s been having a tough time after injuring herself on the job as an EMT, and despite her hardship, she still wants to help others by spreading the word about mental illness. Below the Surface

Fans got to know and love Angelina as the happy-go-lucky star of Jersey Shore, but she wants people to know that not everything is as it seems.

Secret Struggles

“I’ve been struggling with depression due to a lot going on in my life,” she told Life & Style exclusively. “And sometimes it doesn’t even have to be anything, I just get depressed out of nowhere.”

Overworked

While nobody needs a reason to justify their depression, Angelina has a pretty good one. “A lot has to do with my job,” she said.

Injured on the Job

“To be honest, I got injured on the job trying to save a life,” she explained. In November 2017, Angelina lifted a 450-pound patient and is still dealing with the injury it caused.

Still Trucking

“I tore my whole back, and I was never the same. I still hold the job as a [Fire Department of New York] EMT,” she explained, but she has been taking it easier on the job ever since. “It’s been a struggle. I am not the same.”

Fans Don’t Know

“Fans don’t know [that I struggle with depression],” she said. “It’s a lot to deal with. I sleep at 6 p.m. most nights from depression.”

Personal Pain

Angelina added that she hides it well, but she’s still hurting a lot inside. “No one knows [how much it can] affect your relationships at home with your loved ones and just you as a person.”

Speaking Her Truth

For that reason, Angelina wants to be brave and share her story to raise awareness.

Helping Others Understand

“I want people out there to know they aren’t alone and to get the help they need,” she said, even offering up her own sympathetic ear. “If they ever want to talk, message me.”

Reach Out for Help

Angie herself has recently begun seeking help, though it may take a little while to start to feel better. “I just started talking to someone, and I still feel like it’s not helping,” she said. “Maybe because it’s new.”

A Triumphant Return

While Angelina had some drama during the first season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, fans were thrilled to see her back for season 2.

America’s Sweetheart

She was happy with the response she got from followers. “I think America loves me now,” she said. “I am a new Angelina, and I am happy America has seen the real me.”

It sounds like she will probably be on the roster of season 3 as well, because she teased, “I can’t wait for them to see more of me soon.”

Can’t Get Enough

Angelina may be dealing with a lot right now, but she definitely doesn’t regret joining the cast of the iconic TV show. I am happy I made the decision to get back on,” she said.
