Joe Alwyn Was ‘Wise’ to Avoid Slamming Taylor Swift After Their Split: ‘He’s Proven He’s a Class Act’
Joe Alwyn’s presenting gig at the Oscars back in March came as no surprise to Hollywood insiders, who exclusively spill to Life & Style that he’s in demand for major roles and has only skyrocketed in popularity since his split from Taylor Swift.
“Joe was very wise during their breakup. He kept his head down and his mouth closed and focused strictly on his work,” an insider dishes. “He didn’t give interviews about Taylor or do any social media rants, he didn’t even hit the like button on snarky posts.”
The Brutalist actor, 34, was “uber professional and respectful” following their breakup, according to the insider, and that show of manners helped pave the way for a “much easier time for him within the industry.”
“Taylor has no bones to pick with him, she’s happily moved on, and he’s kept it classy the whole time,” adds the insider, referring to the “Mine” singer’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who she’s been dating publicly since September 2023.

“No one can fault him and that certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed by Taylor and by her friends as well as people within the industry,” the source continues. “He’s got proven talent and he’s proven he’s a class act, that goes a long way with the decision makers.”
Taylor, 35, reportedly began dating the English actor in May 2017 – though many fans theorized that they may have initially met at the 2016 Met Gala – but they didn’t go Instagram official with their romance until May 2018. While they were occasionally spotted out and about together for date nights or film premieres, the pair kept details of their relationship very private.
“For me, I just don’t feel it’s something I want to offer up to be picked apart by people who don’t know about it, and it’s just not theirs to have,” Joe explained in a September 2018 interview with Total Film, per People.
Taylor also admitted that she’s learned over the years that if she talks candidly about her romantic life, people think it’s “up for discussion.”
“If you and I were having a glass of wine right now, we’d be talking about it — but it’s just that it goes out into the world,” she added in an August 2019 interview with The Guardian. “That’s where the boundary is, and that’s where my life has become manageable. I really want to keep it feeling manageable.”

After six years togethers, it was reported that the former couple officially called it quits in April 2023. A source told People at the time that their split was due to “differences in their personalities” and was “not dramatic.”
Since then, Joe has revealed that he tries not to let the “noise” about his split from Taylor affect him as he moves on with his life and career.
“I have tried just to focus on controlling what I can control,” Joe said in an interview with The Guardian that was published on January 5. “And, right from the beginning, [I] tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course … I think I’ve done what lots of people who find themselves in the public eye do, which is just try and ignore it.”
