Kaia Gerber’s Mom Cindy Crawford Out to Fix Her Romance With Austin Butler: ‘Son-In-Law Material’
Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler are spending time apart and are very much on the outs, but a source exclusively reveals to Life & Style the model’s meddling mom Cindy Crawford sees the actor as her dream son-in-law and is doing everything in her power to keep them together.
“Cindy’s frustrated with her daughter’s behavior and thinks she’s not trying hard enough to keep Austin and is going to lose him if she keeps carrying on this way, partying and flirting with other guys,” the source says.
The couple went public with their romance in March 2022. Kaia, 23, was even there to support her beau at the 80th Annual Golden Globes, when Austin, 33, won best actor in a drama for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in the biopic, Elvis.
They were spotted jet-setting around the globe since first getting together – making an appearance at the Met Gala in New York City, vacationing in Paris, shopping in Malibu and just hanging out walking their dog in Los Angeles.
Things seem to have been going well for both up until recently. But the in-demand actor has been on rocky ground with his runway model girlfriend for weeks. He was even conspicuously absent from his girlfriend’s 23rd birthday party in September. The model, her famous parents — Cindy Crawford, 58, and Rande Gerber, 62 — and brother Presley, 25, all headed to Disneyland in Anaheim, California to celebrate, sans Austin.
The relationship has come under strain due to Austin’s heavy workload over the past two years, as his star rises in Hollywood.
A second source that previously talked with Life & Style said “the crazy pressure Austin has been under over the last two years as he became a household name” is driving a wedge between the two.
“These are issues Kaia has always had a hard time getting her arms around, along with Austin’s crazy schedule where he’s been filming almost constantly for the last 18 months,” that insider explained. “Austin is a good guy, but everyone is being realistic about the fact that he’s way more invested in his career than he is in this relationship. At least that’s how it looks when you spend time with them as a couple.”
Despite Austin spending more time away from Kaia, the source says the model “is trying to up her game and stay interesting” to her up-and-coming boyfriend of more than two years.
Letting a future A-list son-in-law slip from the family isn’t on Cindy’s to-do list, either, and she’s pulling out all the stops as she tries to make her daughter see the light.
“Cindy thinks Austin’s a total sweetheart and perfect son-in-law material and so does Rande and she hopes he doesn’t break up with Kaia,” the first source says.
“If there are problems in the relationship, then Cindy’s attitude is they make the effort to iron them out.”
“She’s pushing the idea of couples therapy on Kaia, who really wants to live her own life without having to defend her actions.”
