Kelly Clarkson’s Kids River and Remy Make Rare Appearance on Her Show: ‘They’re So Grown Up’
Kelly Clarkson‘s kids, daughter River Rose Blackstock and son Remington Alexander Blackstock, made a rare guest appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show and won over the hearts of the in-studio audience and viewers at home.
During the Wednesday, January 8, episode, Kelly, 42, and her children, whom she shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, reflected on their last visit to the show when Remy, 8, sang Frank Sinatra’s hit “My Way.” The performance was shared via YouTube on the official Kelly Clarkson Show account, which has since racked up more than one million views.
“How did you feel about the clip going viral there?” Kelly asked her son. “Remember when I came and I told you? It was like, ‘Everybody’s loving your video!’”
“Yeah, how much views did I get again?” Remy cheekily responded.
Kelly directed her answer to the crowd saying, “I said, ‘Man, buddy, you’ve got like over a million views I think on your —,’ and he goes, ‘Do you get that many views?’ I was like, ‘Calm down … and not often.’”
Later in the episode, River, 10, showcased that she inherited her mother’s personality while also sharing that she has a passion for music, too.
“I like to write. I like to sing,” River told the crowd. “I put that together in a journal that I forgot at home because I am a forgetter in my family. But I do that a lot in my room. I spent hours and hours and hours, singing, trying to do a song.”
The “Behind These Hazel Eyes” singer gave her daughter’s original songs a stamp of approval by telling River just how “good” her work is.
After the episode aired, the official Kelly Clarkson Show YouTube channel shared a clip of the family interview, and the comments section was filled with messages from fans who adored Kelly’s kids.
“Wooow!! Time passes much too fast!! They’re so grown up!! Big sister River Rose oh my! She emanates sooo much care for her precious little brother!! Amazing!!” one person wrote.
A second fan commented, “Oh my God Kelly you can see the proud Son that you have. I think he’s gonna take after you. River so happy about her little brother good for you proud mama. Love your show.”
Kelly and Brandon, 48, welcomed River in June 2014 after tying the knot eight months prior. Remy joined the family almost two years later in April 2016.
“They’re not shy at all, but they’re just different,” the former Voice judge said about her kids during a 2017 appearance on the Today show. “He could care less that you’re in the room, and she wants everybody to know she’s in there.”
Life & Style confirmed Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon in 2020. After a nasty legal battle, they finalized their divorce in 2022. As a part of their agreement, the three-time Grammy-winning artist was granted primary custody of River and Remy. Brandon was given custody one weekend every month.
In 2023, Kelly and the kids relocated from Los Angeles to New York City, where The Kelly Clarkson Show is filmed.
“I was very depressed for the last three years — and maybe a little before that, if I’m being honest. I think I really needed the change,” the “Since U Been Gone” artist told People at the time. “I needed it for me and my family as well. My kids are thriving here. We’re just doing so much better, and we needed a fresh start.”
