Harry Styles and More Stars Attend Liam Payne’s Funeral 1 Month After Death

Liam Payne’s family and friends gathered in England to say their goodbyes to the late One Direction star on Wednesday, November 20.

Prior to the service, former One Directions members Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson were spotted arriving at the venue, as well as the mother of his son, Cheryl Cole. Meanwhile, Liam’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, and Girls Aloud singers Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh were among the first people to arrive. James Corden was also in attendance, as well as BBC Radio host Scott Mills.

Fans around the world were at a loss for words when news broke that Liam died after falling from his hotel balcony in Argentina on October 16, Life & Style confirmed at the time.

“There was no possibility of resuscitating him. He had extremely severe injuries that were incompatible with life due to the fall,” authorities said at the time. Moments before Liam’s tragic death, the staff of the hotel he was staying at called 911 after the musician broke his laptop in the lobby, complaining of his erratic behavior.

Liam’s autopsy report was released on October 21, revealing that he had “pink cocaine in his system.” The drug is reportedly a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA. Benzodiazepine and crack were also in his system at the time of his death.

The X Factor star’s close family and friends have beautifully remembered Liam and shared private moments they had with him over the years.

“Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” Zayn Malik wrote in a statement via Instagram on October 17. “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life.”

Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, also broke their silence shortly after Liam’s death, and showered their late bandmate with unconditional love.

“I am beyond devastated to be writing this but yesterday I lost a brother. Liam was somebody I looked up to everyday, such a positive, funny, and kind soul,” Louis, 32, wrote via Instagram at the time. “I first met Liam when he was 16 and I was 18, I was instantly amazed by his voice but more importantly as time went on I got a chance to see the kind brother I’d longed all my life for.”

On October 30, a source exclusively told Life & Style that Liam was “leading a devastating double life” before he died.

“On the outside, Liam was all smiles. But on the inside, he was hurting,” the insider explained.

On Sunday, November 3, In Touch reported that Liam’s body was set to be buried in his home state after his body was transported “from a Buenos Aires morgue to a British cemetery.”

“All the documents are ready for the former One Direction singer to return to his homeland so a funeral can take place there next week,” Argentinian outlet daily La Nacion reported at the time. “When Geoff Payne reached Argentina on October 18 he was told the repatriation process could take between four and five days, but because of the circumstances surrounding his son’s death things took longer than expected.”
