Love Is Blind’s Stephen Richardson Reveals He Sent Monica Davis ‘the Last $400 in His Bank Account’

Love Is Blind star Stephen Richardson seemed to throw a little bit of shade at his ex-fiancée, Monica Davis, when he gave his side of the story about the Venmo payment heard ‘round the world.

“It was $235 but she told me to round it up to $250 for ‘being a piece of s–t’ so I gave her the last $400 in my bank account since I guess she really needed it,” Stephen, 34, told a fan who asked how much he owed Monica, 37, via his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, October 29, per The Tab. “She covered me for half our groceries and a lunch for one day. It’s not that I didn’t have money, I was trying to save some money until the union kicked me back to work.”

The former couple hit it off quickly in the pods, but their relationship began to crumble once they made it back to the real world. Monica was supportive of Stephen when he found out he had lost his job while filming Love Is Blind and she even offered to carry their financial burden until he could get back on his feet.

However, after Monica busted Stephen for sending sexually explicit texts to another woman while he was supposedly at a sleep study, she broke off their engagement.

“Reading those text messages filled with fetishes and c–ming – like, it’s disgusting, Stephen,” Monica said when she confronted him about the messages during episode 8. “Why did you do this? Why did you propose? Why did you come here? Like, who are you?”

Stephen attempted to defend his actions by saying he was “drunk,” but Monica cut him off.

“You were doing it today, Stephen. You texted her this morning, and the really gross ones were today, so, don’t f–king lie to my face,” the account executive said. “They started yesterday and they went through today.”

Monica then asked Stephen to Venmo the money he owed her in front of her so she could make sure he paid her back.

“Before you leave, I would like you to Venmo me the money you owe me for me carrying your weight the last couple days,” she explained. “If you wouldn’t mind taking out your phone now to send me the Venmo.”

After the episode of Love Is Blind that showed Monica and Stephen’s split hit Netflix, fans were curious how much he actually owed her.

“Alexa play Flowers by @mileycyrus. Swipe to see the Venmo amount and note,” Monica wrote alongside a series of photos she posted to Instagram on October 15.

The last slide contained a screenshot of Stephen’s Venmo payment for $400 and viewers saw that he wrote, “Piece of s–t’ tax,” in the memo line as the reason for the payment. Since their split, Stephen and Monica have both discussed the text message scandal in depth and she revealed that she found the kinky texts by accident.

“I discovered the texts just by total coincidence,” Monica told Entertainment Weekly on October 9. “We were in our apartment that day, and in the morning, Taylor [Krause] and Garrett [Josemans] had sent all of the couples a text that said, ‘We’re going to be baking fall goods for everyone, and we’re going to drop them off later tonight.’ We were expecting them to come by soon, and he had to go to the bathroom, so he left his phone, and it lit up.”

She continued, “I was scrolling to the top because I wanted to see when they started, and they started some time ago, certainly before he left to do this [show]. It was like a dagger to the chest in that moment. Five seconds after, Taylor was asking me, ‘What did they say?’ And I couldn’t even remember the girl’s name, but I do remember they were really very sexual. I remember one specifically said, ‘No one’s ever been able to satisfy my kinks the way you do.’ And they were just going back and forth.”

Fans can watch Monica and Stephen hash out their breakup during the Love Is Blind season 7 reunion on Wednesday, October 30, at 9 p.m. ET.
