Slay all day! Lizzo looked like a true queen while flaunting her curves in a powder blue bodysuit during a concert in Miami Beach on September 11. Staying true to herself, the “Truth Hurts” songstress belted out her music while twerking, playing the flute and being unapologetically badass for the crowd at the Jackie Gleason Theater. The artist is very outspoken about body positivity and has made it clear that she doesn’t want to be called “brave” for putting her body on display. Her career has been on fire — she recently put on an unforgettable performance with an inflatable butt during the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards — and it doesn’t look like she’s slowing down anytime soon. Keep scrolling to see photos of her performance!
The 31-year-old stood out in a cheery light blue leotard with lots of zippers — a look she’s now known for during her performances — and matched her eye makeup to the bright hue. She also layered a gold wrap on top.

She’s Come a Long Way
Nowadays, the “Juice” singer knows her worth. “I take self-love very seriously,” she explained. “And I take it seriously because when I was younger, I wanted to change everything about myself.”

Finding Her Inner Strength
Like many of us, Lizzo had a hard time comparing herself to today’s unattainable standard of beauty. “I didn’t love who I was. And the reason I didn’t love who I was is because I was told I wasn’t lovable by the media, by [people at] school, by not seeing myself in beauty ads, by not seeing myself in television … by lack of representation,” the “Tempo” artist noted.

Coping Mechanism
When she felt down on herself, Lizzo would retreat away from those closest to her. She divulged, “I was the worst communicator, emotionally, when I was younger. I would stop talking to my family; I would stop talking to my friends.”

Not a Great Solution
“I would go deeper and deeper into that dark place, and the deeper I went, the harder it was to reach out of it,” the “Cuz I Love You” songstress explained. However, she has definitely found her confidence and is spreading that strength to fans.

Only Your Opinion Matters
The soulful singer has an immense amount of self-love and she will continue to prove it by the way she lives her life. “I don’t like it when people think it’s hard for me to see myself as beautiful,” Lizzo told Glamour in an August 28 interview. “I don’t like it when people are shocked that I’m doing it.”

News Flash
If you ever wonder why Lizzo loves showing off a little skin it’s because she simply wants to. “When people look at my body and be like, ‘Oh my God, she’s so brave,’ it’s like, no, I’m not. I’m just fine. I’m just me. I’m just sexy,” the Hustlers star acknowledged.

Do You
Lizzo also called out that women of different sizes frequently receive unfair comparisons. She added, “If you saw Anne Hathaway in a bikini on a billboard, you wouldn’t call her brave. I just think there’s a double standard when it comes to women.”

More Inclusion?
The effects of social media can sometimes be negative, but Lizzo also recognized that it opens the door for a lot of people. “Back in the day, all you really had were the modeling agencies,” the singer explained. “I think that’s why it made everything so limited for what was considered beautiful. It was controlled from this one space. But now we have the internet.”

Her Own Tool
Lizzo confessed that the web helped her find self-love. “If you want to see somebody who’s beautiful who looks like you, go on the internet and just type something in. Type in blue hair. Type in thick thighs. Type in back fat. You’ll find yourself reflected. That’s what I did to help find the beauty in myself,” she said.

Room for All of Us
How can we see more body diversity online and IRL? “Let’s just make space for these women,” the Detroit native begged. “Make space for me. Make space for this generation of artists who are really fearless in self-love. They’re out here. They want to be free.”

Take Action
“I think allowing that space to be made is really what’s going to shift the narrative in the future. Let’s stop talking about it and make more space for people who are about it,” Lizzo added.
