‘Love Is Blind’ Fans Question Devin’s Story About Struggling With Ibuprofen Addiction
Love Is Blind star Devin Buckley opened up in season 8 about struggling with a back injury in high school that led to him taking up to 20 ibuprofen pills a day.
“I’m a basketball player my whole life. Senior year of high school, my back started to get really bad,” Devin, 29, told fellow LIB costar Brittany Dodson in episode 4. “I started to feel shooting pain down my legs, and my feet would be numb and getting out of bed was hard. Putting shoes on was hard. Walking was hard, and I just refused to tell myself that I’m never going to play basketball again. I don’t care how bad it hurts. I’m not going to stop.”
The youth mentor said that his family tried a wide range of treatments from cryotherapy to acupuncture, but Devin claimed nothing helped.
He continued, “I took two ibuprofen before practice, then I doubled it. It was four. So then it turned from four to eight to 12 to 16 to 20 and I was just getting to the point where I was kind of, like, fighting with myself.”
Fans felt like Devin was implying he was “addicted” to the over-the-counter medicine, and several of them questioned his claims on social media.
“What the f–k is an ibuprofen addiction? Is that a thing? I asked ChatGPT and it said, ‘No, ibuprofen is not considered addictive because it does not produce cravings, dependence or withdrawal symptoms like opioids or other habit-forming substances,’” popular Love Is Blind content creator Storytime With Rikki said in a TikTok video posted on Sunday, February 16.
Another skeptic wrote in the comments section, “My theory is that was a cover for an Oxy problem but they wanted to keep it PG.”
One person on X added, “I think the funnest thing I’ve ever seen on reality TV is this guy on Love Is Blind telling a sob story about a debilitating 20-ibuprofen-a-day pill addiction.”
A fourth person added, “This dude on Love Is Blind talking about taking 20 ibuprofens … like you hurt your liver, that’s it, fam. You’re not addicted to nothing.”

Along with Brittany, 35, Devin also connected with Virginia Miller, and he recounted the same story with her as well. While both women were sympathetic to his struggles, fans felt it was unnecessary for producers to include both clips in the first six episodes of Love Is Blind season 8.
“I’m glad he told the ibuprofen story twice cause I thought I misheard the first time,” one viewer said.
The Netflix star bonded with both Virginia, 34, and Brittany, but his relationship with Brittany ended after he revealed he wasn’t sure how he felt about the fact that she had had relationships with women in the past.
“It would’ve been great to hear something else when I shared that with you, but I still don’t want you to just tell me what I want to hear. I want you to be completely and 100 percent fully yourself,” Brittany explained. “Just knowing that you may be a little more rigid than I would like in a partner, I just kind of felt like, I don’t think that this is going to be good for me.”
Devin ultimately proposed to Virginia while he was still in the pods, but fans will have to wait for the rest of the episodes of Love Is Blind season 8 to drop on Netflix before finding out if they actually said “yes” at the altar.
