Well, she certainly made a statement! When Sarah Jessica Parker hit the red carpet at the 2018 Met Gala in NYC on Monday, May 7, fans were divided over her bold look. While some people absolutely loved her fashion-forward ensemble, others couldn’t believe the beloved style icon stepped out in such a gown.

“Wow, stunning, as always!” one person wrote on Instagram with another similarly adding, “Queen of the ball!” However, some others couldn’t help but criticize SJP’s look on social media. “The Queen of Hearts ran out from Alice in Wonderland,” one person quipped. Others wrote, “Why does Sarah Jessica Parker have 80’s blue eyeshadow on though? Why? WHY? I need answers” and “Imagine being the poor guy who has to sit behind Sarah Jessica Parker at the #MetGala.

One thing no one can argue with is Sarah Jessica’s adherence to the 2018 Met Gala’s theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Her long-sleeved gold down, designed by Dolce & Gabbana, was ornately embroidered with red hearts. But it was her massive, nativity scene headpiece that really got people talking.

“I am inspired by the themes. One can only do your best. This was particularly enjoyable because Dolce & Gabbana — they’re devoted observant Catholics — and so they’ve grown up with the church and imagery and they had a lot of strong feelings and beautiful sketches so it was easy,” SJP told E! News before this year’s event.

Prior to this year’s Met Gala, curator Andrew Bolton spoke out about the 2018 theme. “Fashion and religion have long been intertwined, mutually inspiring and informing one another. Although this relationship has been complex and sometimes contested, it has produced some of the most inventive and innovative creations in the history of fashion,” he said. The jury may still be out regarding your 2018 Met Gala look, Sarah Jessica, but we love it and can’t wait to see next year’s fashion!
