We’re Absolutely Crushed That Beyoncé Won’t Be at the Met Gala This Year
Bad news for all members of the Beyhive. Beyoncé will not be at the 2018 Met Gala tonightand JAY-Z is to blame. According to Entertainment Tonight, Queen Bey was originally planning to walk the red carpet tonight — which would’ve been her first Met Gala appearance in two years had she decided to go. That’s right — we’ve been denied a Beyoncé moment at the Met Gala for two years now. But the mom of three’s plans changed when her husband JAY decided to surprise B with a spur-of-the-moment trip.
“JAY-Z surprised her with a trip because she felt she needed to relax before her tour,” a source told ET.

There’s no denying that the power couple has their hands full, especially now that they’re parents of three — Blue Ivy, 6, and 11-month-old twins Rumi and Sir. Not to mention, Bey and JAY are gearing up for their joint tour On the Run II, which will feature live performances of their “companion albums,” JAY’s 4:44 and Beyoncé’s Lemonade. Both albums touch upon themes of family, infidelity, and divorce.
Proving that Beyoncé did indeed intend to walk the red carpet, the “711” singer already had a gown picked out. The source told ET that Peter Dundas had been working on Bey’s Met Gala dress for weeks before news hit that she’d changed her mind.
Of course, fans are quick to point out that the Met Gala hasn’t always been a happy time for Beyoncé, historically. In fact, it’s an occasion that has stirred up quite the amount of drama for the Carter family. The last time the 36-year-old singer made an appearance at the Met Gala, she walked the carpet solo, just after Lemonade had dropped and whispers of Jay’s infidelity were more than whispers, they were headlines.

When Beyoncé showed up wearing a skin-tight, flesh-colored gown of what appeared to be latex, many fans theorized she “wore Becky’s skin” to the Gala, a direct reference to Bey’s Lemonade lyrics. Oh, and did we mention she walked the carpet without her wedding ring?
And then two years prior, it went down in the elevator. That’s right — in the beatdown heard ’round the world, Bey’s sister Solange Knowles attacked JAY-Z in an elevator, allegedly over his adultery. In the footage, Solange could be seen yelling, hitting, and kicking her sister’s husband, while Bey stood rather calmly alongside them. Later, the couple put out a statement alleging that they had “worked through it.” Clearly they have. The couple celebrated their 10-year anniversary last month!
