It’s time to get back to work! Peacock has officially announced a brand new spinoff of The Office. Life & Style rounds up everything there is to know so far about the cast, plot, premiere date and more for The Paper.
What Is ‘The Paper’ About?
The Paper is a mockumentary television series created by Greg Daniels (The Office) and Michael Koman (Nathan for You).
It’s set to follow the same documentary crew “that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch” as they search for their latest subject. They find it in a “historic” but “struggling” Midwestern newspaper called The Truth Teller “and the publisher trying to revive it,” according to Peacock.
A Character From ‘The Office’ Will Reprise His Role in ‘The Paper’
Fans of The Office are sure to be excited to learn that Oscar Nuñez (The Proposal) will continue his role as Oscar Martinez in the upcoming show – and he’s clearly moved on from Scranton, Pennsylvania.
“I told Mr. Greg Daniels that if Oscar came back, he would probably be living in a more bustling, cosmopolitan city,” Nuñez explained while discussing his role during NBCUniversal’s Upfront on May 12, 2025. “Greg heard me and he moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio — which has three times the population of Scranton. So, it was nice to be heard.”
“Greg and Michael have invited us into the familiar world of the workplace,” he continued. “Or should we say the office place?”
Domhnall Gleeson’s New Character Works at a Newspaper
Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), an Irish actor and the son of actor Brendan Gleeson (Paddington 2), will star as one of the characters working at The Truth Teller.
“Fans of The Office will be delighted to [see] Oscar back at work, and some older fans will look at me and be glad that Meredith is also coming back,” Domhnall joked during Upfront, referring to Kate Flannery’s character in The Office, before playfully clarifying, “That’s a red hair joke.”
Speaking of the main characters, Domhnall said, “We are three members of a wonderful ensemble cast of underdog characters that are banding together to keep journalism alive,” prompting a laugh from costar Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus).
“She keeps doing that,” he quipped. “My character has the unwavering optimistic belief that he can turn The Truth Teller to the glory of its heyday … And, if you’re wondering, I will not be using this Irish accent.”
Who Else Stars in ‘The Paper’?
Domhnall, Oscar and Sabrina will be joined by an ensemble cast of costars, including Chelsea Frei (The Cleaning Lady), Melvin Gregg (Snowfall), Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League of Their Own), Alex Edelman (Unfrosted), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever) and Tim Key (See How They Run).
Former Stars of ‘The Office’ Visited the Set of ‘The Paper’
On the “Office Ladies” rewatch podcast, Angela Kinsey – who played Angela Martin in the show – confirmed that she’d visited the set with Jenna Fischer – who played Pam Beesly Halpert.
However, it is unclear if they will have any involvement in the development of the show.
When Is the Release Date for ‘The Paper’?
The Paper is set to premiere on Peacock in September 2025.
