Pierce Brosnan and Wife Keely Shaye Thriving in Hawaii: ‘He Never Gives Her a Reason to Worry’

Pierce Brosnan and wife Keely Shaye are more in love than they’ve ever been after 24 years of matrimonial bliss and a source exclusively tells Life & Style they’ve become a time-tested, shining example of a robust, lasting relationship in an industry known for fleeting romances and imploding marriages.

“Keely lets Pierce be himself, she’s very secure in their relationship and is very much her own person,” the source says. “He also works hard to make sure the trust is always there; he never gives her a reason to worry. They have great communication and a deep sense of respect for each other and for the life they’ve built together.”

The couple met in 1994 while hanging out on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where Keely, 61, was working as a journalist on assignment with Cheers actor Ted Danson. The 007 star, 71, was still in mourning over the untimely death of his first wife, Cassandra Harris, from ovarian cancer in 1991. But meeting Keely would turn his life around and bring passion back to his days. “Where I go in the world, I miss her,” the Irish actor told The Independent of his second wife in 2016, “and I send her my love.”

The couple married in a romantic ceremony in Ireland in 2001. They share two sons, Dylan, born in January 1997, and Paris, born in February 2001. Over the last three decades, they’ve made it a point to prioritize their family’s well being and home life over stardom, which has served them well, the source notes.

“They now live between Malibu and Kauai,” the insider explains, “but for a long time they were primarily in Kauai, and they do credit being out of Los Angeles as part of the secret to their success. They tell other couples in the industry to not make Hollywood their base.”

Far from the buzz and hypocrisy of Hollywood, the Brosnans have cultivated a grounded lifestyle on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, which has long been the couple’s sanctuary. When they’re not traveling for Pierce’s work or supporting their various charitable causes — both are passionate environmental activists and philanthropists — they mostly enjoy their time quietly exploring the stunning natural beauty of the island or gardening and making art, with the former James Bond often sharing his paintings on Instagram.

The source assures Pierce is “not caught up in his own hype or ego,” adding the actor is “very down to earth.”

“He’s this incredible painter, he meditates, he’s very evolved.”

Pierce has made very public pronouncements of love for his wife in the past, gushing to People how much he adores spending time with her alone with just their thoughts and some wine. The source adds their marital bliss is also in part to their differing professions. “It also helps that there is only one actor in the mix.”

“A lot of couples in the business fail because there is competition between them, it’s just hard to avoid. And to be fair, Pierce is a very unique guy, he’s a movie star but he’s so much deeper.”
