Rachael Kirkconnell Is Open to Dating After Matt James Split, But Says She’s ‘Cynical’ About Love
Rachael Kirkconnell reveals that she’s open to dating following her split from ex Matt James, though admits that she’s “cynical” about love during an exclusive interview with Life & Style.
“I will say I’m a little cynical right now. I keep telling myself I don’t know if my perfect person is out there. But then I’m like, ‘Stop with the negative talk,’” Rachael, 28, tells Life & Style about her thoughts when it comes to dating while promoting her “Golden Era” line with Showpo. “It’s been a little over a month and I have all the time in the world. I’m not ready yet.”
While Rachael is “definitely not putting [herself] out there right now,” she adds that she’s “always open to anything.”
“If I meet my husband tonight, then great. I’m not going to push people away,” she continues. “But I’m definitely not, like, pursuing anything [and] putting myself out there.”
Rachael says she’s “definitely focusing” on herself and is “trying to better” herself. “I think when you are trying to put yourself first and become the best version of yourself, you’re also telling the universe to bring that back to you,” she explains of her mindset. “So hopefully, it’ll all work itself out. But right now, I’m focusing on myself.”
After meeting on season 25 of The Bachelor, Rachael got Matt’s final rose and they remained together for four years. They seemed to be one of the strongest couples to come out of the franchise, and fans were shocked when Matt, 33, announced their split in January.
The former reality star admits she’s “sad” about her single status because she’s “excited for a family and everything,” though she’s “not trying to rush or jump into it and have it be a forced thing.”
“I would rather be alone than be in an unhealthy, unstable environment at this point,” Rachael says. “I’m not settling for anything less.”
While Rachael isn’t currently spending her energy on dating, she is focused on her new collaboration with Showpo.
“I’ve been a fan of the brand for a minute. So, they reached out and just wanted to see if I was ever interested in doing anything with them and [I] definitely jumped at the opportunity,” she tells Life & Style about how the collaboration came about. “A lot of the pieces were golden hour inspired.”

The Georgia native adds that “the whole line is mostly about just finding [her] confidence and getting those pieces that you just know when you put it on, it’s going to make you look good.”
Rachael also says that the collaboration came at the right time for her. “I’m honestly just taking it one day at a time. I am just trying to make lemonade out of lemons,” she shares. “I think that’s what my goal is professionally, just to say yes to a lot of more things than I usually would and just put myself out there.”
“I’m trying to get myself out of that comfort zone and just kind of learn more about myself along the way if that makes any sense,” she explains about her goal for the clothing line.
