Sobriety is far from easy, but the only way to do is to put one foot in front of the other and keep going. When longtime Real Housewives of New York star Countess Luann de Lesseps spoke to Life & Style exclusively at the Gloria Bell special screening in NYC on March 4, she got candid with us about her how far she’s come with her sobriety and how her RHONY costars have been supporting her.

“You know what, I take it day by day,” the 53-year-old revealed to us. “I take my sobriety seriously, and day by day, and I just am learning to enjoy myself without drinking. So it’s eye-opening and it’s not easy. It’s always a struggle, but I feel a lot better.”

The RHONY OG went to rehab in early 2018 and got sober after an intoxicated incident in Miami on Christmas Eve 2017 left her charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and battery on an officer. Luckily for her, she has a great group of women who have her back when she needs it, but mainly trust her to do what’s best for herself.

“The girls have always been supportive of my sobriety,” Luann explained of her RHONY costars. “So I’m fortunate that they don’t make a big deal of it.”

Since leaving rehab and getting back into regular life, the countess has made sure to stay vocal about the complete 180 she has made in her life. “Nine months ago, I was in jail, and now I’m a cabaret star,” the countess said in the season 11 trailer. “Isn’t that crazy?”

After finishing treatment, the longtime Bravo star got back into something we saw her do in the early seasons of the show: singing! Remember when she dropped her first single “Money Can’t Buy You Class” back in 2010? Well, now she’s back and better than ever, with a touring cabaret show that has been selling out all over the country.

It looks like great things really can happen when you better yourself — take a page from Luann’s book.
