We all know the Real Housewives are always evolving and growing as a group. So when former Real Housewives of New York guest Barbara Kavovit joined the ladies as a full-time cast member this season, we had a feeling the wives would be in for a bit of a shakeup. When cast member Sonja Morgan sat down with Life & Style exclusively at a CoolSculpting event at the Four Seasons in NYC, she gave us her thoughts on the newest addition to the RHONY ladies we know and love.

“Oh, we all have an opinion on how the new Housewives fit in,” the 55-year-old explained to us with a smirk before getting a bit more serious. “I’m a very welcoming person. First of all, I have to say, Barbara and I go way back. I’ve known her longer than Luann, in fact we were girlfriends having lunch at Ciprianis as young business women. She was building her construction business and I was building my luxury consulting business, so it was that social circuit.”

Considering she’s known her ages, it makes sense that Sonj only had good things to say about the newcomer. “She’s a hardworking woman, she’s a good mom, and she’s a lot of fun,” she revealed. “And she’s very mischievous, but not in a sneaky, behind-your-back way — she’s very in your face. And she’s very loyal, which I love. And she’s been very loyal to Luann, which you saw.”

Dealing with Countess Luann de Lesseps and her sobriety has been a big part of the season so far, including her ongoing feud with costar Dorinda Medley, who wasn’t invited to Barbara’s clambake in a show of support toward her sober friend.

“[Barbara was] like ‘I just don’t want to jeopardize her sobriety and I just think this first clambake of the summer, you don’t need to be here.’ And that ruffled Dorinda’s feathers,” she explained. “Some people said, ‘Well Dorinda didn’t have you at the Berkshires that time because she thought it’d be better for others and now she sees how it feels’ and that wasn’t even half as painful as what I went through. I was so hurt. I’m very sensitive.”

Ultimately, Sonja was just feeling for her friend. “I was really hurt because I didn’t want Dorinda excluded,” she said. “But you’ll see tonight, I’m like ‘I’m taking the lobster home! I’m taking a to-go bag back for Dorinda.. but in the meantime how many clams can I consume while I’m here?'”
