Taylor Swift Thanks Dave Portnoy for ‘Having Her Back’ in Personal Handwritten Letter
Dave Portnoy revealed that Taylor Swift sent him a handwritten letter thanking him for “having her back.”
“I did get into the VIP section, which was amazing,” Dave, 47, said while reflecting on the Eras tour in Miami in an Instagram video shared on Sunday, October 20.
The Barstool Sports’ founder then explained that Taylor’s brother, Austin Swift, “hand-delivered” him a letter from the “Cruel Summer” singer, 34, at the show.
“Dave, I am so happy you are at the show tonight. I wanted to say thank you for always being so supportive, so loyal, for having my back when a lot of people didn’t,” Dave read from the letter, which was written on personalized stationery that read, “From the desk of Taylor Swift” and referred to her as a “songwriter and feline enthusiast.”
Taylor concluded in the note, “I hope you have a blast tonight. Love, Taylor.”
Dave continued the video by gushing about the “spectacular” experience he had while attending the second Miami show on Saturday, October 19. He said that Taylor’s mom, Andrea Swift, gave him “a real hug” in the VIP area, which he admitted almost brought him to tears. He then gave Taylor’s longtime publicist, Tree Paine, a shout-out before revealing that he sat next to Billy Joel at the show.
The internet personality then explained that he was making the video after he was accused of only being a “performative” fan of Taylor’s. “I had the time of my life, I can’t get over how unbelievable Taylor is,” he said about the concert. “Performing three-and-a-half hours, day after day, flawless, perfect.”
Dave began to wrap up the clip by reflecting on how special Taylor and her family made the concert for him.
“Yes, I had the time of my life. Yes, I can’t believe I met Austin and her mother,” he said. “This means more. To take time out to write a handwritten letter. … I’d say it’s one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time at this concert.”
He concluded, “I think for all Swifties, let’s just practice love and not this hate.”
Dave has been heavily involved in the Eras tour, and he started passing around a hand-painted denim jacket for Swifties to wear at the concerts when the tour kicked off in March 2023. In addition to the jacket, the gift also includes a bag with letters from fans that discuss their love for Taylor. After he received the letter from Taylor, he put it in the bag for others to admire.
Taylor kicked off the final leg of the Eras tour on October 18 in Miami. After she performed three shows in the Florida city, she is set to continue the shows in New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto and Vancouver.
During the final show in Miami on October 20, Taylor gave a shout-out to boyfriend Travis Kelce after the Kansas City Chiefs won their sixth game of the season.
“Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” she sang during the final performance of the night, changing the lyrics from the original, “Karma is the guy on the screen, coming straight home to me.”
