Victoria Beckham Opens Up About The Comment That Mel B Made After Spice Girls Split

Victoria Beckham is finally setting the record straight — and she’s spilling the tea on a comment one of her fellow Spice Girls made that still sticks with her.

In her newly released documentary Victoria Beckham, which premiered on October 9, the fashion icon isn’t holding back as she revisits her days as Posh Spice — and the moments that still sting.

Reflecting on the 2008 Spice Girls reunion, Beckham, 51, admitted that stepping back into her pop persona after years away was both nostalgic and revealing. “I hadn’t been Posh Spice for such a long time. It was good to be back with them,” she shared.

But not everything about the reunion was positive. Beckham revealed that a comment from her bandmate Melanie B — a.k.a. Scary Spice — left her hurt.

“One of the girls actually said to me, and it did upset me not too long ago, actually it was Melanie B who said to me, ‘Don’t forget where you’ve come from,’” Beckham recalled.

“I have never forgotten where I’ve come from. I have never, ever forgotten that Posh Spice is the reason that I’m sitting here now. She might have been grumpy, but she was actually great.”

While Beckham said it was “good to celebrate the Spice Girls,” she also realized during the tour that her true passion had shifted.

“It was during that tour that I realized I didn’t belong on stage. It had been fun, but it wasn’t what I loved anymore,” she explained. “I knew that to start this new chapter of my life, I had to change. Strip the other personas away.”

Beckham then reflected on her evolution from pop star to designer: “I knew that to start this new chapter of my life, I had to change. Strip the other personas away, You know, I buried those boobs in Baden-Baden. I became a simpler, more elegant version of myself — and I went to work.”

For the premiere of the documentary, Victoria — who shares Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, with husband David Beckham — was joined by her family, as well as fellow Spice Girls Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, and Mel C. One notable absence, however, was Mel B.
