‘White Lotus’ Creator Mike White Slams Critics of Season 3 With NSFW Message: ‘Get Out of My Bed’

Not everyone was happy with season 3 of The White Lotus, and creator Mike White had a NSFW message for the show’s critics.

After the season 3 finale aired on Sunday, April 6, Mike, 54, reflected on the backlash the show faced during the “The White Lotus Official Podcast.”

“There was complaining about how there’s no plot and that part I find weird, because it never had [a plot],” he explained on the criticism regarding the latest season. “Part of me is just like, bro, this is the vibe. I’m world-building. If you don’t want to go to bed with me, get out of my bed. I’m edging you! Enjoy the edging.”

He continued, “If you don’t want to be edged, get out of my bed.”

Mike continued his NSFW metaphor by adding, “Don’t be a bossy bottom. Get the f– out of my bed. Don’t come home with me. Don’t get naked in my bed. Get the f–k out of my bed. Obviously, something is going to happen.”

The season 3 finale saw three of the show’s characters die during a shocking shootout. After Rick (played by Walton Goggins) spent all season believing that Jim Hollinger (played Scott Glenn) killed his father, he killed the hotel owner as revenge. After he shot Jim, Rick learned that he was actually his father all along. The hotel’s security quickly began shooting at Rick, and he grabbed girlfriend Chelsea’s (played by hand Aimee Lou Wood) hand to escape the shots. However, Chelsea still died when she was hit by a bullet.

Rick carried Chelsea in an attempt to get her medical help, though Gaitok (played by Tayme Thapthimthong) ultimately shot him to protect Jim’s wife, Sritala (Lek Patravadi).

After the finale episode aired, Walton, 53, penned a touching tribute to the characters of Rick and Chelsea.

“Rick + Chelsea. With the heaviest of hearts … To me, ours was a love story. It was only ever a love story, hindered by unresolved, childhood trauma. We all have them … but can we move past them,” he captioned several photos of the duo on the HBO show. “In the depths of our despair there is always beauty around us. If we can sit with our pain, just sit with it … not react … not be defined by it … It’s there … the love the world is constantly giving in any given moment is there. Always waiting for us to see it … Trust me I know.”

After he thanked Mike for his “imagination” and “tender heart” in creating the characters, he gave a shout out to Aimee Lou, 31. “Thank you Aimee Lou for being my partner … a journey I will never forget,” Walton wrote.

Aimee Lou was just as upset by their characters deaths, and she said it felt “so weird” to know her character’s fate during the filming process. “I didn’t expect it to feel like that for such a long time before,” she said during a cast panel following a screening of the finale episode. “And also, Chelsea doesn’t know what’s going to happen to her, but I know. So it’s this odd thing.”

“I think, it’s a lot. And he’s so clever because at the end you want to hold the joy of the triumph and the sunglasses on and all that, but you’re still there like, ‘Eh…,’” she continued of her reaction to the finale. “And so Mike just makes you sit in that really achy place.”
