You may have heard of That Girl Lay Lay without even realizing it. The 12-year-old gained some recognition online during the summer of 2018 when a video of her freestyling went viral. Fast forward to now and she’s performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 28!

Whether you’re familiar with the young rapper or not, something tells us you’re going to be seeing her everywhere. After all, she recently signed a record deal, which means this is only the beginning for her. “It’s official!!! I am the YOUNGEST FEMALE RAP ARTIST to sign a record deal,” she wrote on Instagram in August 2018. “I would like to thank my fans @empire @queenalphashawn @buttamurphy @djcone and my DAD @aciehigh_aciehigh44 for making this possible. Look out for my first single, ‘Go Lay Lay Go.’ ALBUM ON THE WAY!!!”

The following month, Lay Lay (real name: Alaya High) made her debut appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. During her interview, she revealed she started rapping at the age of 5 and was inspired by her dad, who is also a rapper. “It takes practice,” she told Ellen about freestyling. “I’m still practicing. I’m going to get better at it. You just do what you have off the dome.”

When it comes to her favorite artists, Lay Lay likes to listen to Cardi B, Migos, Lil Baby and Gunna. However, her “all-time favorite” artist is Rihanna. The girl’s got good taste. What does she rap about? Pretty much anything. “Food, pots and pans, butterflies … it doesn’t even matter,” she added. Her lyrics are kid-friendly and scream confidence. How can we not stan?

“Check out the deuce/ Lay Lay is in it,” she began rapping during her performance on the show. “Yeah I can flow/ Go for some minutes/ I’m on the go/ They say ‘go’/’Spit a sentence’/ Drink juice/ Eat some spinach/ Bully the game/ Dennis the Menace/ Take the beat/ But I didn’t invent it/Copy their flow/ It’s easy to mimic.” To finish off her performance, Lay Lay pulled out lip gloss and applied it, which seems to be her signature move. The crowd was all about it, and so were we.
