Has there ever been a better villain than The Joker? The TV hit Gotham follows the Batman franchise, primarily the stories of James Gordon and Bruce Wayne. But, fans are wondering who plays the infamous antagonist on the series? That actor would be Cameron Monaghan, who is a 24-year-old California native and plays Jerome Valeska on the show. He acts as a possible origin for the Batman supervillain The Joker, sharing similarities in appearance and behavior to the character.

"It takes a constant awareness. He’s extremely intelligent, he’s extremely on top of every situation, and he’s constantly one step ahead of all the other characters," he said about playing Jerome. "That required projecting a sense of confidence and ease and awareness. It’s a presentness that’s key to engaging the role. I spent pretty much the entirety of the time on set being in character and doing nothing but just focusing on the scenes themselves. There was no idle chitchat. I found it required that level."

And he's not only great on Gotham — he also plays Ian Gallagher on Shameless. Keep scrolling to learn more about the star!

Is Cameron Monaghan gay in real-life?

Cameron's character in Shameless is gay. Although this by no means that he identifies as gay in his real-life, fans are still curious to know his sexual orientation. He addresses the subject on Twitter writing, "This is the only time I will answer this here: No, I'm not gay. Yes, I play a gay character. No, the question should not be relevant."

He then added, "Thanks for the kind words, everyone. It feels a bit odd to 'come out' as a straight guy." Good for him for being open with his fans!
