Accusations of Diva Behavior ‘Very Upsetting’ for Sofia Vergara: ‘She Doesn’t Put Up With This’
Sofía Vergara is being labeled the “rudest celebrity” by a former Modern Family costar, and a source exclusively tells Life & Style she’s been shaken up by the accusation while vowing to defend herself from allegations of diva behavior that she feels are upsetting and untrue.
Kelly Mantle, who guest starred on the series that made Sofía, 52, a household name in the 2019 episode “The Last Halloween,” opened up about the Griselda star’s behavior on set and accused her of acting like a Hollywood princess behind the scenes during an appearance on the podcast “The Bald and the Beautiful with Trixie and Katya” in January.
Discussing a meltdown she alleges Sofía had over a wig, Kelly, 48, described the actress as the “rudest celebrity” she’s ever encountered, adding that being on set with her “was not the most pleasant experience I’ve ever experienced.”
The singer and actress clarified that Sofía’s ire “wasn’t toward me,” but said, “It was the way that some of her staff were being treated” that really made her cringe.
Though, the insider, who is close with the Colombian native, says “Sofía is dumbfounded by this,” and that “she really doesn’t understand where this is coming from, or why it’s coming out now.”
“This person is accusing her of being rude five years ago, nothing was said to her at the time, not to mention they appeared on one episode, how can they even judge her from that brief experience?” the insider adds.

Kelly continued explaining the situation to the podcast host after calling Sofía out, saying, “They yell action, and I’m supposed to put the crown on her hair. So I put the crown on, and then they say cut, and she’s like, ‘Watch out for the wig! You’re putting the crown on my head!’”
“Well, girl, you should have put those bobby pins in,” Kelly claimed she retorted, referencing Sofía’s initial refusal to secure her costume wig with bobby pins as recommended by the hair and makeup people, which initially led to some tension backstage between the star and show staffers.
Walking back the initial accusation a bit, Kelly acknowledged, “Maybe it was a bad day. I’m just going to say it was a bad day. Because she’s hilarious, and beautiful, and talented, and gorgeous. I’m sure it was a bad day.”
But, according to the source, even with the slight retraction at the end of Kelly’s story, the cost to Sofía’s reputation may be very real and is more so personally frustrating for her, especially because she considers many of the people she works with to be her friends.
“Sofía made so many good friends on that show, and had nothing but good experiences, so it’s very upsetting that this random day player is coming out with these sour grapes and trying to take her down with these random accusations about her being this mega diva,” the insider explains. “Sofía speaks her mind, so you better believe she’ll address this one way or another. She doesn’t put up with this sort of thing lightly.”
