More than two years after splitting from ex-fiancé Josh Murray, Bachelorette alum Andi Dorfman is still getting used to the single life. Though the Atlanta native — who relocated to NYC in 2015 after her highly publicized breakup — often wishes she had a man by her side, she isn’t waiting for a partner to have children.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Andi, 30, opened up about the difficult decision to freeze her eggs to ensure that her dream of motherhood comes true one day. “It’s scary to think I only have me to rely on. But there’s something liberating about that,” she told the magazine, adding that her fellow Bachelor Nation star and Chicago-based fertility nurse Whitney Bischoff helped her through the process. “I always thought, ‘I’m not that old yet.’ Then, I was going to weddings and I realized just how single I am.”

The New York Times bestselling author added, “I can’t guarantee a husband, but by freezing my eggs, I can guarantee kids. It felt like a great way to take off the pressure. I mulled it over for a few months and then I was like, ‘I’m going to do this before I turn 30.’”

Andi elaborates on her experience in her new book, Single State of Mind — which hits shelves on Tuesday, Jan. 9 — and explains how freezing her eggs took a toll on her both physically and mentally. According to the former district attorney, it took her a while before she was finally ready to share her story.

“I didn’t feel comfortable while it was happening,” Andi admitted. “My way was writing about it. Some women feel great; I felt alone and had to come to grips with that. There are women who will feel the same way. It was necessary, but not something to boast about.”

Andi isn’t the only former Bachelorette star to freeze her eggs. Kaitlyn Bristowe (who also relied on Whitney for help) froze her eggs back in March. The podcast personality’s fiancé, Shawn Booth, revealed the news in a touching Instagram post.
