Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Son Maddox Open Up About His Estranged Relationship With Dad
Sharing his point of view. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s son, Maddox, has been shielded from the public eye as much as possible throughout his childhood. But now that he’s 18 years old and just embarked on his new college journey at Yonsei University in South Korea, it seems like Maddox is also ready to open up about his personal life. In an interview obtained exclusively by In Touch, Maddox opened up about his family and his relationship with his estranged dad.
When asked if Brad, 55, would be visiting him on campus at school, Maddox said, “Um, I don’t know about that….” As far as their relationship being over? The biochemistry major replied, “Whatever happens, happens.”
Maddox and Brad have had a strained relationship for years. Angelina, 44, adopted Maddox in 2002 from Cambodia when he was just seven months old from an orphanage in Cambodia. She started dating Brad in 2004 after they met on the set of their 2005 film, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Brad later adopted Maddox in 2006, and the former couple shares six children together: Maddox, Maddox, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. But there was an alleged incident that took place on a private plane between Brad and Maddox in 2016 that would change the Jolie-Pitt family dynamic, and that incident is also what led Angelina to file for divorce from Brad.
“Maddox has never really gotten over the whole plane incident and is so protective of his mom,” a source explained to Life & Style. “Despite Brad’s attempts to make amends, their relationship sadly doesn’t seem like it will ever be the same. His loyalties lie with Angelina.”
It didn’t help that during Brad and Angelina’s nasty custody battle, a judge deemed Maddox old enough to decide how much time he wanted to spend with his dad. Sources exclusively revealed to Life & Style that when the custody agreement was reached in December 2018, Maddox chose not to have much contact with Brad. Which is why on August 21, Angelina, 44, traveled to South Korea to help Maddox settle into his new college dorms without the Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood star.
“The kids are thrilled their parents are getting along better,” an insider said. “All of them are close to Brad again, apart from Maddox, who keeps his distance.”
