Turns out Pete Davidson Has Always Had a Thing for Ariana Grande, and His 2017 ‘SNL’ Skit Proves It
Is there more to Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande‘s love story than meets the eye? It’s very possible. Despite the fact that it seemed like they barely knew each other before reportedly getting engaged, the longtime Saturday Night Live star might have actually hinted at a crush he had on Ari last year.
During a SNL skit in 2017, Pete weaved his way in and out of the cast as they mingled at a masquerade ball. But, instead of wearing a traditional mask, he sported a black, glittery bunny ear mask that very closely resembled the one Ariana wore on the cover of her Dangerous Woman album. Looking back on it, it was a clear nod in her direction. And since wearing the bold bunny ears, Pete has made his love for the symbol — and Ariana — even more permanent.
Just days after news broke that the pair were an item, the 24-year-old comedian got a tattoo of black bunny ears behind his own ear. Tattoo artist London Reese shared a photo of the ink on Instagram and captioned the shot, “We had a good night.”
Of course, the bunny ear tattoo caused an uproar on social media. “Uhhh, I was on board for them being together, and thought they were cute, but this sh-t is too serious. Big mistake, [he] might as well [have gotten] her name tattooed,” one person wrote on Instagram. Another said, “This is one of the stupidest things I’ve seen. Wow.”
Fans are only now starting to pick up on Pete’s 2017 SNL bunny ear cameo because he’s in love with the gal that made the mask famous. But back then, Pete was still in a serious relationship with Larry David’s daughter Cazzie David. It’s unclear when the two actually called it quits, but his romance with Ariana has sure moved quickly.
In just a few short weeks, Ariana and Pete started dating, and reportedly got engaged. They have yet to verbally confirm the news, but a source told People, “It’s a recent engagement. They’re just two people who found love quickly, and make each other happy all the time. They both started talking about it this past weekend. It’s nothing they’ve been hiding.”
Here’s to hoping Pete and Ariana pass out bunny ear masks at their wedding. We’ll be waiting for our invite.
