He’s off the market! Pop crooner Ed Sheeran took to Instagram on Saturday, Jan. 20 to reveal a secret that he’s been holding in for quite some time — he’s engaged! He revealed that he popped the question to his longtime girlfriend Cherry Seaborn right before New Year’s Eve and he announced the exciting news with a sweet Instagram post.

“Got myself a [fiancée] just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well,” the 26-year-old captioned an adorable polaroid shot of him with his arms wrapped around his fiancée as he planted a big kiss on her cheek. (For those who are not well-versed in British slang, “chuffed” means “very pleased.”)

Fans flooded the comments section to congratulate the “Shape of You” singer and many of them gushed over how lucky his future bride is. “Congratulations! Judging by your song lyrics, she’s marrying the most romantic man on earth,” one fan wrote, and another commented, “IM [sic] SO HAPPY FOR HIM BUT IM [sic] JEALOUS OF HER.”

Cherry and Ed met while they both attended the Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, England, according to The Sun, but he didn’t start dating the hockey star until 2015 —
and things quickly got serious. Last year, Ed opened up about his relationship with Cherry in an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 and he revealed that he was ready to start a family with Cherry.
