Confession: We thought Pink got her name from her infamous hair color. Anyone else? No? OK. Turns out, Alecia Beth Moore didn’t get her inspo from a bottle of L’Oréal. Instead, the “What About Us” songstress came up with the moniker while watching Reservoir Dogs — and the meaning is actually raunchy AF.

“My best friend had never seen a white girl’s vagina before so he asked me if I could see it, so I showed it to him and he said ‘It’s pink!’ Then my friends started calling me Mr. Pink,” the Pennsylvania native explained to IOL in November 2017.

If you’ve never seen Quentin Tarantino‘s violent film, Steve Buscemi‘s character is also named “Mr. Pink.” She admitted, however, that people aren’t exactly thrilled with the how she came up with her stage name. “I’ve been receiving complaints for a very long time. I’m OK with it.”

Pink — who has children Willow, 11, and Jameson, 6, with her husband Carey Hart — ran into her big screen namesake just prior to the release of her first album Can’t Take Me Home in 2000. “I actually ran into Steve Buscemi on the street in New York before my first album came out,” she said. “I had these big f–king Elton John sunglasses on, pink hair and carried a Pink Panther toy.”

She continued, “I went, ‘Steve! Mr. Pink! I’m Pink! Because of you! I’m going to have an album and you’re going to know who I am.’ And he was like, ‘What the f–k lady?’ and just ran away from me.”

Apparently, she freaked him out so much, they haven’t crossed paths in 18 years. “I’ve never met him since. He was scared s–tless of me. Sorry Steve!”

Now that Pink has been an A-list name for more than two pop-smashing decades, her birth name just doesn’t sound right to her anymore. The “Funhouse” vocalist told WENN in 2006 that her family, who used to call her Pink before her fame, reverted back to Alecia once she hit stardom.

“It was my nickname but now it’s not ours anymore, it’s just how everyone knows me. Now Alecia is more like my nickname, my pet name,” she revealed to the outlet at the time. “I’m still getting used to it. It’s very strange. Carey uses Alecia when he’s mad at me. When anybody is mad at me they call me Alecia. That’s why it makes me uncomfortable.”
